Froch-Abraham: Carl may need to get dirty to beat Abraham

Image: Froch-Abraham: Carl may need to get dirty to beat AbrahamBy Scott Gilfoid:I’d like to think that former WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (26-1, 20 KO’s) will be able to beat Arthur Abraham (31-1, 25 KO’s) in a straight up fight on October 2nd in their Super Six tournament fight in Monaco, but I just don’t think that Froch has the power, chin or the defense to get by the big punching Armenian.

For Froch to win this fight, he may to reach back in his toolkit and get evil with Abraham and turn the fight into a professional wrestling/MMA mix where Froch uses a little wrestling, a little holding hitting, some rabbit shots, punches below the border, shots after the bell and maybe a body slam here and there. Whatever it takes to win, Froch may have to take it to another level to beat Abraham. I’d prefer Froch to fight cleanly without fouling, because I’m all in favor of watching a good clean fight, but I can’t see Froch reacting well if he starts losing to Abraham on October 2nd.

Because losing this fight will likely be a huge setback for Froch’s career in terms of lost paydays and I think Froch may have to pull out a plan B out of his tool kit to get this win. Froch turned things rough on the talented Andre Dirrell in their fight last year in October, and was able to escape with a narrow 12 round decision. I think Froch might be able to get the upper hand against Abraham if he turns it into a street brawl. I’ve seen some British fighters in the past that were quite skilled at the rough stuff when things weren’t working out well for them in their fights.

Froch might have to do the same thing himself to make sure he can get any edge possible. I mean, what choice would Froch have? If he’s getting his head caved in by Abraham’s right hands and/or forearms, what’s a guy to do? Just take it? Froch will have to respond in kind but get even more brutal at the game if need be. I’ve seen Abraham’s fights and although he can be a little dirty at times, he’s got nothing on what I saw of Froch in his fight against Dirrell. If that Abraham in the ring with Froch that night, I can see Abraham getting the royal business from Froch and not having the same skills to compete with him.
