By Sam Gregory: In the main event Saturday night at the Sovereign Bank Stadium in York, Pa unbeaten junior lightweight Carney “Beeper” Bowman improved his record to 15-0 with 7 KO’s when he stopped Robert Acevedo 9-11-3 with 1 KO of Union City, NJ in the third round of a foul filled fight in a scheduled 6 round bout in the junior lightweight division.

At the opening bell only a few jabs were exchanged when Acevedo began holding Bowman excessively to the point that before the halfway mark of the first round Acevedo received 2 warnings for holding and hitting Bowman in the clinch. Before the first round was over Acevedo had a point deducted for his infractions.

The second round became a wrestling match between the two fighters with more excessive holding and hitting in the clinch. By midway through the second round the referee was getting more of a workout than the two principles pulling Bowman and Acevedo apart and trying to keep them from fouling each other.

37 seconds into the third round the fight had to be stopped due to excessive fouling. By that time what was going on in the ring looked more like a street brawl than a professional boxing match.

The alcohol induced ringside spectators were quick to get into the scuffle by throwing beer cups half full of beer into the ring. The two fighters had to be escorted from the ring dodging trash and even a folding chair that were heaved into the ring.

When it was all said and done Bowman improved his record to 15-0 with 7 KO’s while Acevedo fell to 9-11-3 with 1 KO.

The amazing part of the whole situation is the referee was able to keep anyone from getting seriously hurt and that the fight didn’t end in a disqualification.
