Pacquiao passes Mayweather in Yahoo’s pound-for-pound ratings – News

By Chris Williams: For what it’s worth, Manny Pacquiao has surpassed unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr. in Yahoo’s pound-for-pound ratings with the score of 345 to Mayweather’s 330. This, no doubt, is because of Mayweather’s decision not to fight Pacquiao during 2010. It’s pretty irrelevant if you ask me. Whether Yahoo rates Pacquiao over Mayweather or not, I still see Mayweather beating the tar out of Pacquiao when they do eventually fight. Pacquiao is so wide open on defense that Mayweather could drive a truck through all the holes that Pacquiao has defensively. It’s interesting that Yahoo is rating Pacquiao over Mayweather, but I don’t see it as having any meaning whatsoever.

Pacquiao hasn’t shown in his recent fights against Miguel Cotto, Ricky Hatton, Oscar De La Hoya or Joshua Clottey that he has the ability to beat a fighter like Mayweather. Indeed, Pacquiao was badly marked up in his last fight against Clottey and that was when Clottey was throwing around 20 punches per round. Mayweather will throw a lot more than that and with all the opportunities that Pacquiao is going to be giving Mayweather, I see this fight as another easy win for Mayweather. It isn’t whether Mayweather will win the fight; it’s whether the fight can ever be successfully made.

Mayweather wants a bigger cut of the revenue and with Pacquiao feeling he deserves a 50-50 deal, I don’t see this as a doable fight. And that’s not even mentioning the random drug testing that Mayweather wants Pacquiao to agree to before fighting. I don’t see that happening either, so it really doesn’t have much meaning that Pacquiao is being ranked above Mayweather, as far as I’m concerned. I see Mayweather as a much better fighter and someone who would easily beat Pacquiao 12 rounds to 0 if they were to ever fight.

But unless Pacquiao agrees to much less than a 50-50 deal and agrees to the full random blood testing, I don’t see the fight happening. Mayweather doesn’t need Pacquiao. He can fight a lot of different opponents that would be willing to agree to his random blood tests and who would be more than willing to accept a smaller cut of the revenue. Pacquiao also doesn’t need Mayweather. He can fight Antonio Margarito, and continue to fight Miguel Cotto over and over again, and then fight guys like Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. before hanging up his gloves.

As far as the rankings go, I have Mayweather number #1, Sergio Martinez #2, Paul Williams #3, Chad Dawson #4, Timothy Bradley #5, and Pacquiao #6. I would rate Pacquiao a lot higher if he had fought and beaten guys like Bradley, Sergio Martinez and Williams. But instead he’s faced Cotto, after Cotto was beaten by Margarito, Clottey, after he was beaten by Cotto and Margarito, Hatton, after he was beaten by Mayweather, and De La Hoya, who was totally shot and weight drained.
