Image: Mayweather vs. Pacquiao: Give The Fans What They WantBy Edward Davis: One thing we all have in common whether we are writers, editors, bloggers or just the average Joe that keeps up with boxing news, is that we are all fans of this sport that is reluctantly diminishing. Boxing is only taking more of a downfall due to two recent failed negotiations between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. This is not fair for us boxing fans at all. You cannot be that good and not face one another in the sport you both sweat blood and tears for. Imagine football with no Superbowl because AFC didn’t want to play NFC or vice versa. Imagine basketball with no championship, imagine baseball with no World Series. Those major sports wouldn’t be nearly what they are today if they did not have that last and final game of the season or series of the season. If I’m allowed to give my opinion I’d say Pay per view killed boxing. To many people with the options to hand pick fights. It’s quite frustrating to be honest.

Nevertheless, reading some recent quotations spoken of by Manny Pacquiao recently on Philboxing.com really opened my eyes. He truly is the only one out of the two trying to make this fight happen not only for himself but for us fans. He said on the website and I quote “This is the fight that the fans want” and he’s more than willing to make that happen. I find it absolutely amazing that he has agreed to take the Margarito fight but is not even commenting on Margarito. While earlier this year, after Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Mosley agreed to terms, When asked by Brian Kenny of ESPN about Manny Pacquiao, Floyd wouldn’t even utter a single verb about the Filipino Slugger. As a matter of fact the most Floyd said was, “We are focusing on Mosley right now.”

I’m really not trying to be a fan of either fighter I just want to see the fight happen. But all in all I have no choice but to connect the dots and something just doesn’t seem right about this at all. Even the whole drug testing from the first failed negotiations was a head scratcher because Mayweather demanded the drug testing to be done 14 days prior to the fight for Manny Pacquiao but let Mosley do it only 18 days before the fight, and on top of that Floyd himself wouldn’t even recommend any boxer take a blood test 14 days prior to the fight. Then this whole clean up the sport of boxing festivity. Floyd has not taken 1 single step in “Cleaning up the Sport” since making that comment. Then the strange silence from Mayweather is confusing me, because this is the same Mayweather that talks his opponents out of a fight. I don’t know, it’s just a head scratcher to me, but to each it’s own.

As for us fans, please take our fan hats off and really ask ourselves who is trying to make this fight happen more than the other? For you Manny Pacquiao fans, you want nothing more than to see the Filipino Slugger in the ring with Pretty Boy Floyd and luckily he’s doing everything for you all to make that happen. But for you Floyd Mayweather fans, none of you can say you don’t want him to fight Pacman because you do, but what has Floyd done or even said for his fans other than “I’m not interesting in fighting right now.” Sorry Floyd fans, i know you all might feel disappointed but arrogance and ignorance and bunch of trash talk might make you all feel superior to the facts, but I truly believe deep down inside you all know something fishy is going on with Mayweather and fan will be a fan but I know you do not like his most recent events pertaining the Super Fight between Manny Pacquiao.
