Mayweather letting the world know Pacquiao isn’t getting a 50-50 deal

By Chris Williams: In this Youtube video, which is dated to before the current negotiations have started between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao, you can see Mayweather making his feels clear on the subject of the money split between him and Pacquiao. Mayweather says “everyone knows that I’m not going to fight Manny Pacquiao and he’s going to get a 50-50.”

Who knows? Maybe Bob Arum thought he could convince Mayweather to agree to the 50-50 deal. But Arum should have had a good idea that Mayweather, due to his better pay per view numbers in the Shane Mosley fight, wouldn’t agree to the same 50-50 deal as last time. That was a missed opportunity on Pacquiao and Arum’s part to land the fight then when Mayweather was agreeable to a 50-50 deal. I doubt he’s agreeing to it now. What a wasted opportunity.

They had Mayweather where they wanted him, and then instead went and fought Joshua Clottey and wound up getting only 700,000 PPV buys. Heck, they might as well have pulled a name out of the hat and had Pacquiao fight that person because it sure messed things up and made it easy for Mayweather to top the 700,000 with his bout against Mosley. Once Mayweather got the better numbers by virtue of his 1.4 million PPV buys for the Mosley fight, it gave him a reason to ask for a better split of the money. There’s a lesson here somewhere. If you’re going to have to fight Mayweather sometime in the near future, it’s best you take on the most popular, big named fighter available in order to have that working for you when it comes to negotiating with Mayweather at the bargaining table.
