Maidana’s back isn’t injured after all

Image: Maidana’s back isn’t injured after allBy Scott Gilfoid: WBA light welterweight interim champion Marcos Maidana (28-1, 27 KO’s) sent a long rambling letter to Fight News today, saying his back isn’t injured and talking about managerial problems he’s been having the past couple of months. Maidana also talked about not being too clear who his promoters are and other stuff along these lines. The only thing I care about is when Maidana plans on fighting again.

It doesn’t seem like it’s going to be any time soon judging by all the complaints Maidana had about this and that. He got rid of his manager and he doesn’t sound too happy with him. I just hope Maidana can get this stuff cleared up soon so he can get back in the ring. Maidana missed out on fights against Timothy Bradley and possibly WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan. I say possibly because even though Khan has been calling Maidana out lately, I kind of doubt that Maidana would be able to land a fight against Khan if he totally ready to fight and had his manager and promotional issues behind him.

I just don’t see that fight happening for some reason. That good news is Maidana isn’t injured and says he wants to get back in the ring, in particular against Khan. Maidana doesn’t say when he will be getting back in the ring. Hopefully, Maidana doesn’t stay out of the ring for too much longer because the guy needs to take on Khan or Bradley and bring some excitement back in the light welterweight division.

I had to sit through a boring mismatch between Khan and Paulie Malignaggi on May 15th and it was hard to watch. And Bradley is facing a fringe welterweight contender Luis Abregu in July and I have no interest in seeing that fight. At least when Maidana is fighting, he’s taking on the best fighters in the division and putting some excitement into it. Bradley doesn’t seem too interested in fighting Devon Alexander, and Khan will probably be facing 38-year-old unranked light welterweight Joel Casamayor on July 31st, even though Khan said he was going to start facing the best in the light welterweight division after his win over Malignaggi. I guess we’ll start seeing Khan facing the best after he fights Casamayor.
