Froch says he won’t fight Abraham in Monaco or Poland – News

By William Mackay: Former World Boxing Council super middleweight champion Carl Froch (26-1, 20 KO’s) has ruled out another two countries where he doesn’t want to fight his next Super Six tournament opponent Arthur Abraham. Froch now doesn’t want to fight Abraham in Monaco or Poland. Froch has already said he didn’t want to fight Abraham in Germany. In an article at Thisisnottingham.co.uk, Froch said “The next fight is all or nothing for me. I’m only going to fight on my terms. I won’t be pushed around this time. I won’t be going anywhere east of Nottingham to fight. I don’t mind Canada but I not going to Poland or Monaco. And I’m not fighting in Berlin – there’s no chance of getting a verdict there.”

It’s interesting that Froch has rejected two more countries. He has previously said he won’t fight Abraham anywhere in Europe other than Britain, so I guess Froch is covering old ground in his latest announcement. But it is a more than a little unsettling in how hard it is to please Froch, because you would think that Froch should find at least one spot in Europe, besides Nottingham, England, to fight Abraham.

Froch likes Canada for some reason, but Abraham has been cool to this idea, so Froch may have to give in on that one. The chances of this fight happening in Froch’s number #1 spot, Nottingham, are almost nil, though, because Froch beat Andre Dirrell by a controversial decision last October. Abraham likely won’t want to end up like Dirrell and be on the receiving end of a questionable decision.

This is why the two fighters are going to have to find a suitable venue that both of them can agree to in Europe. It’s silly to bring the fight to Canada or the United States when neither of those fighters have much of a fan base there.

Speaking about his 12 round decision loss to Mikkel Kessler in his stage 2 part of the Super Six tournament, Froch says “My preparation was shot to pieces. I didn’t have my usual sharpness. I had Kessler hurt in the 5th and usually I would have finished it off. But the energy and aggression weren’t there.”

It sounds like Froch is making it excuses after the fact. The reason why Froch didn’t have his usual sharpness is because Kessler set a really pace, unlike Dirrell, and took the fight to Froch all night long. Froch didn’t seem ready to fight hard for 12 rounds and tired out in the middle of the fight. Froch looked too tired to do much, even in the 5th round. Kessler recovered quickly in the 5th and took the fight to Froch, landing well.

I’m starting to wonder whether the Froch-Abraham fight can even be made. With Froch rejecting all the potential venues for the fight to take place, it may result in the fight not getting made. Froch wasn’t pushed around in his fights against Dirrell and Kessler, so it’s hard to understand what he’s talking about when he’s saying “I won’t be pushed around this time.”

I have no clue what Froch is talking about. He fought Dirrell in Nottingham and got a nice questionable decision out of it. Froch fought Kessler in Denmark and got lazy in the middleweight of the fight and lost. Kessler continued to fight hard in the rounds where Froch looked lazy and tired. So how is that a case of Froch getting pushed around?
