Did Vitali look bad enough for Haye to want to fight him?

Klitschko has all five fights since staging a comeback against then WBC heavyweight champion Samuel Peter in October 2008. Since then, only one of Vitali’s opponents has, Kevin Johnson, has escaped from being knocked out. And the only reason Johnson didn’t get taken out was because he fought a purely safety first fight bent on survival and not looking to actually win the fight.

Last night, Vitali defeated Alberto Sosnowski by a 10th round TKO at the Veltins Arena, in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. Since Haye hasn’t been exactly eager to fight either of the Klitschko recently, I wonder if he’s going to be showing a sudden interest in fighting Vitali now that he’s seen him in action against Sosnowski. Some boxing fans felt that Vitali looked horrible and think that Haye will easily beat him if he steps up to the plate and fight him.

Other boxing fans feel that Haye would be knocked out regardless of how bad Vitali looked against Sowsnowski. Haye could have seen the Klitschko-Sosnowski and figured that he would have an excellent chance of beating Vitali. In a way, Vitali’s performance against Sosnowski might make it more possible for Haye to want to fight him, because the last thing Haye wants to do is take a fight that he’s not absolutely sure he’ll win.

Most people don’t give Haye much chance of beating either Klitschko. However, Haye might not feel that way after watching Vitali fight. I could be that he feels confident enough to want to go after Vitali to try and take him out.

Haye, a former cruiserweight champion, moved up from the cruiserweight division in pursuit of the much bigger paydays that the heavyweights get. However, after calling out both Klitschko brothers, while fighting B level heavyweights, Haye came close to signing for a fight with Vitali Klitschko, but then disappeared and ended up signing for a fight against WBA heavyweight champion Nikolay Valuev. Haye has since beaten Valuev by a narrow, not entirely impressive decision.

Haye has recently said to have been more interested in fighting the 38-year-old Vitali rather than Vitali’s younger brother IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko. That’s the opponent that Haye, his manager and boxing fans were initially hoping to get put together. Haye, however, has been dragging his feet for some reason. Because a fight with Haye wasn’t able to be put together, Wladimir will now move on and face his number #1 IBF challenger Alexander Povetkin next. Haye, in turn, will either fight Audley Harrison, or one of the Klitschko brothers.
