By William Mackay: IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko doesn’t have a lot of faith in what World Boxing Association heavyweight champion David Haye says after having two fights, one against him and the other against his brother WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko, go up in smoke. In an interview with Reuters, the 34-year-old Wladimir says “Haye cannot be trusted. We twice wanted to fight him, but he always pulled out.” Haye developed a back injury weeks before his fight with Wladimir last year, which ruined the Klitschko-Haye fight that was supposed to take place on June 20th in Germany.

Wladimir selected Ruslan Chagaev to replace Haye and easily beat him. Next, Haye began talks with Vitali Klitschko for a fight, but disappeared before the negotiations were complete and suddenly announced that he was going to fight WBA heavyweight champion Nikolay Valuev instead. Haye went on to capture the WBA title with a 12 round majority decision. Wladimir wasn’t impressed with what he saw of Haye in that fight, saying to East Side Boxing’s On the Rope’s program: “He [Haye] was scared to death [of Valuev]. I don’t see how he could be scared to death. Valuev is as slow as an elephant.”

Speaking of Haye’s recent 9th round stoppage of 38-year-old John Ruiz, Wladimir said “It was his [Ruiz] 9th loss, let’s face it. I’m thankful he won the fight. I would be very upset if he lost.” Haye ended up knocking Ruiz down four times, although three of the knockdowns appeared to be shots that landed to the back of Ruiz’s head. Oddly enough, one of the knockdowns resulting from a rabbit punch led to Haye being penalized one point for the foul, yet the referee still counted the knockdown. As you can see, it was a pretty sloppy fight.

Wladimir points out that Haye had previously promised that they would fight at the Chelsea stadium, also known as Stamford Bridge, but then decided to have the fight take place in Germany. Wladimir was upset because Haye didn’t carry out with his promise of having the fight take place in the Chelsea stadium.

Yesterday, Wladimir sent out a video to websites where he called Haye out for a fight. Haye and his manager Adam Booth responded by suggesting that Wladimir fight his brother Vitali, so Haye could get all the belts at once by beating the winner of the Klitschko vs. Klitschko bout.
