By Jason Kim: World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao (51-3-2, 38 KO’s) won’t be retiring yet, according to news from the Digitaljournal. Pacquiao’s personal advisor Michael Konz is saying that Pacquiao won’t be hanging up his gloves, even if he wins a seat in the congress. Koncz says “Imagine the money he would lose in his every fight at least a minimum of $15 million if he stops boxing.” Whoever Pacquiao does fight next, it might not be Floyd Mayweather Jr. if he insists on Pacquiao taking Olympic style random blood tests.

Both Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach and his promoter Bob Arum have been saying that random blood tests won’t be part of a fight contract if Pacquiao fights Mayweather. With Pacquiao able to make $15 million to fight obscure fighters like Joshua Clottey, Pacquiao hardly needs a fight against Mayweather to get a big payday. It’s not about money for Pacquiao.

He would like to fight Mayweather for his legacy, but not if it means having to take tests that aren’t mandated by the Nevada Athletic Commission. Mayweather, if he gets by Shane Mosley on May 1st, is going to have to do some soul searching and decide how badly he really wants to fight Pacquiao.

If Mayweather decides he really wants to fight him, then he’s going to have to drop his ideas about having Pacquiao take the random blood testing and accept the regular urine testing that Nevada – of Texas – requires from boxers. It may be the only chance that Mayweather will have in getting a big money fight against Pacquiao, because it’s highly unlikely that Pacquiao, Arum or Roach will back down on the drug testing issue.

Besides Mayweather, Pacquiao has a lot of other options for him. He can always fight guys like Edwin Valero, Yuri Foreman, Antonio Margarito, Shane Mosley or a rematch with Miguel Cotto. It doesn’t matter who Pacquiao fights, he’s going to get a big payday because of his proven star power. Arum can put Pacquiao in the Cowboy Stadium with any one of these aforementioned fighters and bring in at least 50,000 possibly even more depending on how well the fight is marketed. If a fight between Pacquiao and Clottey can bring in 700,000 Pay-Per-view buys without an HBO 24/7 special, Pacquiao can bring in just as good numbers facing the likes of Valero, Mosley, Foreman and a rematch with Cotto. It would be a huge fight no matter who Pacquiao faces. This is why Mayweather needs to change his mind about the drug testing, at least this once.
