Image: Audley Harrison vs. Michael Sprott: The worst European Heavyweight title fight in history!By Adam Fillingham: Audley Harrison is a laughing stock in the UK. After winning the heavyweight gold medal in the 2000 Olympics he was meant to go into ‘super stardom’. ‘The saviour of the heavyweight division’ some called him before turning professional. Then he became professional….

26 wins, 4 defeats (to Danny Williams, Dominick Guinn, Michael Sprott and Martin Rogan). Super stardom never came.

Michael Sprott’s career has been full of ups and downs, mostly downs. The former Southern Area, English, British, Commonwealth and EU Champion and former European title challenger has gotten a shock chance to ‘redeem’ his career as Albert Sosnowski (the European champion) got a shock world title opportunity.

Sprott will be fighting ‘A force’ Audley Harrison, in what has been built up to be a world title eliminator. Whether the ‘winner’ will get a world shot is doubtful. The heavyweight division is bad… but not that bad.

The fight could be a good one, but don’t bank on it. Two slow, aging former British champions going at it in a hug fest. Should be entertaining.

My prediction, well I don’t really know. Both seem very competitive and very determined to win this title. For both it is there last chance for a crack at a world title and without a win summons retirement.

To lighten the mood slightly, at least the fight above has a decent under card. Darren Barker the Commonwealth and British champion has finally got a crack at the big time with a Vacant European title shot against French champion Affif Belghecham. This fight will be easy for the Brit in my opinion but if he does struggle his stock will go down incredibly.
