The problem is that Wladimir’s older brother World Boxing Council heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko also wants to fight Haye. The two brothers are going back and forth with each other to try and decide which one will be the lucky person to get a fight with Haye, and along with it a huge payday. A fight against Haye means big money because it’s a fight that boxing fans in the United States and elsewhere in the world really want to see.

HBO Sports will jump at the chance of showing a fight between one of the Klitschko brothers and the loud talking Haye. Wladimir Klitschko looked very impressive last Saturday night in stopping Eddie Chambers with a left hook to the head in the 12th in Dusseldorf, Germany. It was a one-sided fight, and dull until the final two rounds of the fight. Wladimir needs the type of opponent that can make it harder for him to win, and Haye, with his two-fisted power and blazing hand speed, is the exact type of guy he needs to be facing.

In an article at Yahoo Sports, Wladimir said “I told Vitali I would fight Haye, and if he cares about having title belts in the house I told him I will give him Haye’s afterwards. I would prefer to fight him [Haye] in a soccer arena.” This is kind of amusing that Wladimir sees a win over Haye as almost a foregone conclusion. If this wasn’t Wladimir Klitschko, who arguably is the best heavyweight in the entire world, you might think that he’s a little too overconfident for his own good.

However, in looking at how easily Wladimir defeated Eddie Chambers last night, one of the best heavyweights in America, it’s easy to see Wladimir doing the same thing to the unproven Haye. We can’t know how good Haye is at this point because he’s only fought three times at heavyweight against Tomasz Bonin, Monte Barrett and Nikolay Valuev. Haye has won each of the fights, but he didn’t look massively impressive in the fights against Barrett and Valuev.

Unlike in the past while campaigning as a cruiserweight, Haye is getting hit much more often as a heavyweight, and doesn’t look as fast or as powerful as he was while fighting at the lower cruiserweight level. Haye has to beat John Ruiz next month on April 3rd for him to have any chance of fighting the Klitschko brothers.

You can never count Haye out of anything because of his ability to talk. He might be able to still talk his way into a fight against the Klitschko brothers if he gets beaten by Ruiz next month, but it would take a lot more convincing for boxing fans to want to see Haye fight the Klitschko brothers if he can’t beat the 38-year-old Ruiz.
