By Jason Kim: If you’re one of the people who are against boxers having to take random blood tests for their fights, you’ll be relieved to know that the World Boxing Organization won’t be requiring a random blood test for the March 13th bout between WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao and Joshua Clottey at the Dallas Cowboy stadium, in Arlington, Texas.

Examiner.com writer Michael Marley reports that the WBO president Franciso Valcartcel says that the WBO won’t be requiring Pacquiao or Clottey to take the random blood tests for their fights on March 13th.

“If Texas state law required blood testing, then we would go along with it,” Valcartcel said. “I understand their only blood test is for licensing and its purpose is screening Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and HIV. Both fighters [Pacquiao and Clottey] will be subject to our immediate post-fight urine testing as per usual with a WBO title match.”

This may make the anti-blood test fans happy, because it means that Pacquiao won’t have to have his blood tested. His fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. fell apart recently over the random blood testing methods. Pacquiao didn’t want testing to take place 30 days before the fight because he felt that it weakened him, whereas Mayweather insisted upon it being conducted randomly up until the time of the fight to ensure that there was an even playing field.

Pacquiao eventually agreed to have his blood tested within 24 days of the fight, but Mayweather wanted the testing to stop at 14 days before the bout. There are some people who believe that blood testing is a way to test for HGH, a growth hormone that some athletes use to gain muscle mass. However, urine will be the only thing that’s tested for the Pacquiao-Clottey fight.

The Mayweather-Pacquiao fight could be put together at a later date if Mayweather or Pacquiao are willing to come to an agreement about the drug testing methods for the fight. The fight is the biggest thing out there, and if they can decide upon this last issue it would be a great thing for the sport of boxing.

Unlike Mayweather, the 32-year-old Clottey hasn’t been making any mention about Pacquiao needing to take a blood test before he could fight him. Clottey would be crazy to do so, because he would miss out on a fight that could potentially bring him in over a million dollars or more by the time that the final pay-per-view revenues for the fight have been added up.
