That might be a shocker for some, but it would be the perfect remedy to shut up Floyd’s critics and at the same time it would be a much bigger fight than the Pacquiao vs. Joshua Clottey fight that takes place on March 13th in the Dallas Cowboy stadium, in Texas. Mayweather needs a big named opponent and one that will give him a good fight.

The names that have been mentioned recently as potential opponents – Matthew Hatton and Paulie Malignaggi – aren’t going to Mayweather much respect from knowledgeable boxing fans. Malignaggi and Hatton are good fighters in their own right, but Mayweather needs an elite fighter to mix it up with, not someone that is middle of the pack like Malignaggi or 2nd tier like Hatton.

Paul Williams, who stands 6’1 with and 82” reach, would have a five inch height and a 10 inch reach advantage over Mayweather. But so what? If Mayweather, with his great boxing skill, was able to get past Williams’ long reach and beat him, can you imagine how much praise Mayweather would get for that? Boxing fans would literally be kissing his backside 24/7. You can’t say the same thing if Mayweather beats Malignaggi or some other fighter with less going on.
