Image: Cotto-Foreman nearly set for June 12th - NewsBy Peter Wells: Former World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Miguel Cotto looks very likely now to be back in action on June 12th against WBA Light Middleweight champion Yuri Foreman. The fight is looking to be announced as early as next week, and agreements to the fight have run smoothly. Just a week ago this fight was just a rumour in talks, now it’s on the verge of being official. June 12th is a long time away, so don’t get too excited yet, but we do have plenty more to look forward to.

Miguel Cotto is just coming off a last round stoppage of Manny Pacquiao, but has been known to struggle at 147lbs as he is used to piling on too much weight. Now at 154lbs he should feel much better, but can he move all that power up another weight, as he did start at Light Welterweight. Foreman will be 4inches taller but hasn’t fought at the level that Miguel has been fighting most of his career.

Foreman will be making his first defence here after outpointing Daniel Santos on the Pacquiao-Cotto undercard, but hasn’t fought anyone of note before that. His chances of winning aren’t amazing but if Miguel can’t cope with the extra pounds, it could be his night.

Miguel shouldn’t have trouble beating Foreman, and if he has more power could stop him. This fight should be official soon, so keep your eyes peeled, but in the mean time there are plenty more fights to enjoy.
