peterson333By Peter Wells: At Last nights weigh-in, Timothy Bradley came in a pound lighter than lanky challenger Lamont Peterson ahead of their WBO Light Welterweight showdown tonight. Both fighters looked absolutely incredible, the best condition I’ve ever seen either of them in, and trust me they are always in great shape, but last night they both were ripped to the bone. Tim comes in at 138lbs with a record of 24 wins no defeats while Lamont came in at 139lbs, one pound below the limit and boasts a 27-0 record, with 13 knockouts. It should be an incredibly interesting fight tonight and one I can’t wait for, it is an extremely interesting fight, a fight that is hard to decide.

Lamont has said prior to the weigh in “You can use your reach in different ways. I don’t have to move back to use my reach – I can move forward and keep him at reach and keep my jab and straight punches at him. Timothy can box and bang. And I know I can box and bang. It could be an all-out war or a chess match. I’m ready for either”.

Bradley who is also very confident and knowing Peterson and himself are very good friends had this to say “I grew up with Lamont in the amateurs and we know each other very well. He’s much taller with a lot longer reach, but that’s not going to keep me off him. My natural style is being aggressive, so I don’t have to work on it too much. My trainer is working on slowing me down a little bit, let me take my time and pick my shots”.

At a conference earlier this month Bradley told us how much he wanted to keep his title saying “I’m just letting everyone know I’m willing to die Saturday. I’m willing to die for that title. I got to have it and I will have it I know I’m going to hell and back to get it because Lamont Peterson is a great fighter. It’s my time and I’m willing to die Saturday night for that title”. Peterson came back by saying, “Go ahead and give me life then, if that’s what it takes to win, then that’s what I’m going to do. He said I have to kill him, then that’s what I’m going to try to do”. He also added, “When we step into the ring, there is no friendship. We’re going to go at it like we don’t know each other. And then afterwards, we can be friends again.” Bradley finished by adding these words, “I think he’s going to take me to that next level, to greater heights. I’ve always said, if I’m going to lose a fight, I’m going to go out on my shield. If I go out with a loss, I’m going to give everything, every drop of blood and sweat in my body in the ring. I’m laying it all on the line. He’s going to have hell to beat me. He’s going to have hell.”

So both fighters have plenty to say, and if the fight is going to be as exciting as both Bob Arum and Gary Shaw have said, saying it will be a candidate for fight of the year, then we could be in for a treat, whatever the outcome I’m going to enjoy every second of it.
