funeka5456By Peter Wells: After a great semi-final we come down to a grand final with a rematch between Joan Guzman 32-1-1 against Ali Funeka 34-2-3. Last time out they came to a controversial draw, where Funeka looked the clear winner, and now he has the chance to prove that. Funeka remains undefeated in the tournament beating Kevin Mitchell, Michael Katsidis, and Paulus Moses and stopping Edwin Valero in the semis. While Guzman has come out with the only defeat of his career to Edwin Valero while beating Michael Katsidis twice and Kevin Mitchell.

Guzman will be pumped up for this to show the world he can beat Funeka, while Ali will want to make sure the robbery wont be mentioned again. Funeka will start strong in round 1 making sure Guzman can’t get inside this time, but Guzman will use good movement and Ali doesn’t always use his full reach very well at all. Funeka will try to tire Guzman out quicker, so he can stop Joan and stop it going to the scorecards, or to dominate from start to finish.

Guzman will start to move well in round 2 and cause Ali some problems and catching him before he can be caught himself. Guzman starts to get caught in round 3, and is back on the ropes, but Funeka isn’t able to keep it up and lets Joan go. Funeka keeps the pressure on for the next few rounds. By half way Funeka should be just ahead and Funeka keeps the pace going forcing Guzman to try and fight back. Guzman looks knackered by the 10th and is far behind. Funeka keeps catching the bloodied face of Joan Guzman, but Joan keeps coming back refusing to give in. In the end Funeka should come out with a comfortable victory by 9 or 10 rounds.

So there you have it, at the end of the tournament we should have Ali Funeka now 35-2-3 crowned champion of Lightweight, and will be holding the WBA and WBC titles. I wouldn’t know what happens to them after the tournament, because we all know it’d probably never happen.
