By Peter Wells: Well there have been many comments saying Kevin Mitchell shouldn’t be in here, but the reason I slotted him in is because he is now the WBO number one challenger, and would be ready for a step up. Now I’m onto the final fights of the group stage and here is how it’ll go:

Edwin Valero vs Michael Katsidis

This would be the fight of the tournament; two fighters who like to slug it out, Valero being on total knockout form would come in favourite. Valero would look strong in the early rounds, knocking Michael about, but the Aussie brawler would fight back and give all he has. By half way Edwin should be ahead, but Katsidis with the better experience long the long stretch will start to catch Valero as the knockout artist starts to loose his flair. By round 10 Katsidis will have the thumbs up, and both looking bust up, will come out to finish a great fight in an explosive finale, where both fighters go down but Katsidis just has the extra energy to sneak the victory.

Ali Funeka vs Paulus Moses

Now Ali should be feeling really good going into his final fight, while Moses knows he’ll need something here. Funeka will struggle early, with Moses cautious not to take risks but getting in the shots that count. Funeka will try to increase the pace, and Moses will be too wary and will not be landing enough to take the rounds. Funeka will use his long arms to great affect as Moses tries desperately to get inside but being caught too many times. Moses being too cautious will find himself miles behind when the scores are revealed, and will end with no wins all the competition.

Kevin Mitchell vs Joan Guzman

Both fighters will be looking for a big win here, and no punches will be held. Guzman will be the more defensive and making sure he doesn’t get outpointed from the outside. Mitchell will try to find ways inside early, but will be beat to most punches in the first half of the fight. Mitchell will start to come on strong as the fight progresses but Guzman should hang in their, and fight back off the back foot, to just win a questionable split decision.

1. Edwin Valero 6pts
2. Ali Funeka 6pts
3. Joan Guzman 4pts
4. Michael Katsidis 2pts*
5. Kevin Mitchell 2pts
6. Paulus Moses 0pts

Because both Mitchell and Katsidis are both on 2pts, and neither have been stopped or won by stoppage. They will be put into a fight where I can see Katsidis being able to wear Mitchell down after starting the much quicker and winning by cuts stoppage after 10 rounds, with Katsidis well ahead.
