Khan beats another soft opponent – when will he fight someone good?

khan33By Liam Santiago: Let me get one thing very straight. Dmitriy Salita is one of the weakest light welterweight fighter’s I have ever seen in my entire life. That includes all journeymen, not just champions and challengers. I was in hysterics listening to the sky pundits Glen McCory and Jonny Nelson hyping Salita like he was the next Marciano. Now we will have to listen to World Boxing Association light welterweight champion Amir Khan’s rants about becoming the best pound for pound fighter in the world and so on.

That first right hand that knocked Salita down was a soft ‘pitter patter’ shot. I, personally, would have laughed at that punch and so would the 59 other light welterweights who are ranked above Salita by Boxrec. It was a poor, poor punch. But, now every single sports journalist who thinks they know something about boxing will claim Khan is the next Ali etc. Wrong again. By my theory, if you beat bums (such as Salita and Fagan), you are a bum yourself. Would John Murray have fell over like Salita did? Absolutely never. Ricky Hatton would have laughed at those punches from Khan. Remember not all fighters fall over as soon as they take a punch. I am still mythed at how Salita managed to become the no.1 contender for Khan’s title as he is ranked 60th by boxrec.

Many of the customers who pay to see Khan are not actual boxing fans. Many of them are just Khan fans so when he knocks out a guy like Salita in 3 seconds or whatever it was, they all think he is the second coming. It is only when he steps up to fight a real tough guy like John Murray that we will really know how good he is. Murray won’t fall over when he is hit and he won’t just stand on the ropes and let Khan hit him.

Marcos Maidana is the next no.1 challenger for Khan’s title so I expect Khan to vacate that now and fight a super featherweight or another semi retired old legend like Erik Morales. Don’t expect him to take the real lions on like Maidana, Murray or Bradley.

In my opinion, Sky Sports need to really think about changing their pundits. Glen McCory and Johnny Nelson hyped Salita like he was the second coming. They said he was the biggest test of his career blah blah blah. If they had a guy like Steve Bunce in their, he would tell it like it is.
