Bradley successfully defends his WBO title, hands Peterson his first defeat

bradley33By Sam Gregory: In the main event from Agua Caliente Casino, Rancho Mirage, California Timothy Bradley successfully defended his WBO title against undefeated Lamont Peterson in a scheduled 12 round bout in the light welterweight division.

From the opening bell both men threw combinations using their jab to the head and uppercuts to the body. By the middle of the round Bradley staggered Peterson with a bi0g straight right hand.

Going into the second round it was clear to see Bradley found a home for his big right hand as it once again staggered Peterson; than with 17 seconds left in the round Peterson looked to be in trou9ble but he managed to make it to the end of the round.

By the third round it looked like Peterson was back in this fight until Bradley landed a big lopping right hand that dropped Peterson to the canvas. As soon as Peterson made it to his feet Bradley switched to the southpaw stance. Both men were in the center of the ring ripping big uppercuts to the body of their opponent. Bradley got caught with a shot to the head that looked to have him hurt. Bradley clinched and hung on until the end of the round.

By the fourth round both men were fighting in close landing stiff uppercuts to the body; it turned into a brawl with both men letting their hands go swinging hard and landing with accuracy. This was a very back and forth round with a lot of counter punches; jabs to the head and uppercuts to the body.

The fifth round was another back and forth round; Bradley landed some good body shots in this round and was wearing his opponent down; Peterson landed a big right hand that caught Bradley on the button; Bradley shuck it off and made it to the end of the round.

In the sixth round Bradley landed a body shot that spun Peterson around but he stayed on his feet and came back at Bradley with a combination to the body. Bradley landed a big right hook but it appeared to have little or no affect on Peterson who threw a combination of his own; both men had a good round.

Round seven was another back and forth round with Bradley using every bit of the 17 foot ring to work his opponent and wear him down. By round eight it was clear Peterson was slowing down along with his punch output dwindling as well. Bradley continued to land his big right hand to the approval of Bradley’s hometown crowd.

Going into the ninth round Timothy Bradley was ahead on the unofficial scorecards by a large margin. Peterson was a very game fighter but Bradley was too fast and too accurate with his punches. Peterson’s corner was alluding to the fact that if things kept going the way they were going their fighter would need a knockout to win.

Round 10 Bradley comes out and goes right to the body with some hard combinations; Bradley is using the ring to his advantage he has Peterson worn out; Bradley is landing fast and hard with his combinations going to the head and body pulling way ahead on the scorecards.

Round 11 Peterson has never been in the championship rounds, this is the third time for Bradley; Peterson is missing with his left hand, Bradley is doubling up landing big combinations; Bradley lands a big left hand at the end of the round to the approval of the crowd.

Round 12 both men are going back and forth, Peterson is a very game fighter throwing punches but ringside observers agree it will take a knockout for Peterson to win this fight

After the 12th and final round the fight goes to the judge’s scorecards: 118-110, 119-108, and 120-107 all for the winner Timothy Bradley who handed Lamont Peterson his first defeat and successfully defended his WBO light welterweight title.

Timothy Bradley improved his unbeaten record to 25-0 with 11 KO’s; Lamont Peterson suffered his first defeat falling to 27-1 with 13 KO’s.
