Why Floyd “Money” Mayweather Might have a chance against the Mighty Pacquiao

By Derrick Villanueva: I recently wrote an article entitled 5 Reasons Why You Should Bet on Pacquiao. I think it’s only fair to write a similar article for “Money.”

“Money” has Great Defense – I’ve never seen a better defensive fighter than Mayweather. Never. Maybe Ali in his early career, but that’s about it. “Money” is quick, slippery, and nigh un-hittable-like a Young James Toney on Meth. Those punches that do connect slide off or is rolled with, resulting in minimal or no damage. I hate to say it but Mayweather is nothing short of Brilliant in this department.

“Money” is a Razor Sharp Counter puncher – Floyd is the epitome of a counter puncher. The slightest hint of an upturned chin or a sagging glove is all it takes for him to unleash a dead-on-target straight or hook which usually leaves his opponents frustrated and unable to mount any semblance of sustained attack; which leads me to my next point:

“Money” is an Expert Ring Psychologist – He will taunt you. He will make you angry. He will slip away and sting you every time you try to hit him with combos. He is Floyd Mayweather Jr. Ph.D. Watch as he leads the likes of Marquez, Hatton, and De La Hoya to their doom. One thing you’ll notice in all his recent fights is that he’s had all his opponents chase him around only for them to be smacked around time and time again with counters. He leads his opponents to believe that he’s trapped on the ropes and tires them out as he slips, slides, and finally leaves the ropes at a time of his choosing. Like his father, Mayweather Sr., Jr. understands and is a master of mind games.

“Money” is Greedy – “Money” loves Money. Money, however ignoble it might sound, inspires people to great heights. Give your employee the promise of a hundred dollars for the day and watch him improve his productivity by leaps and bounds during that day. Don’t do the same the next day and watch him go back to normal. Money keeps “Money” motivated (there’s no doubt and about that and nothing wrong with it,) and with the looming fight between Pacman and him possibly earning 150M or more, there’s no doubting what’s on “Money’s” Mind.

“Money’s” keys to victory are to utilize the full range of his defensive skills to evade, befuddle, and frustrate Pacquiao to the point that the Pacman stops following his “master’s” game plan and starts getting careless; and use his sharp counter punching to win by UD.

Pacquiao’s keys to victory is to cut off Mayweather’s escape routes, and not get frustrated with “Money’s” boxing skills. Solid hooks from either hand to Floyd’s face (right) and body (left,) and 8-10 hit combos may slow/hurt Mayweather down enough to immobilize him for a few seconds and “rope-a-dope” as can be seen sometimes in his fight with De La Hoya for a possible KO, TKO or UD.
