prescott3445392By Steven Wain: It’s good to be back after so many weeks due to immense amounts of homework and family problems. I was looking at different fights through out the remaining of 2009 and one fight in particular caught my eye with the exception of Khan, Kessler ETC, and this fight is Prescott VS Mitchell.

Prescott and Mitchell will be fighting on the undercard of Khan vs. Salita in a 12 round World Boxing Organization lightweight title final eliminator. The fight will take place on 5th December 2009 a few weeks from now at the Metro Radio Arena, Newcastle, United Kingdom.

Colombia’s Breidis Prescott (21-1, 18 KO’s) who is well know for his sensational 54 seconds Knockout of now WBA World light-welterweight champion Amir Khan. Prescott has excellent power this proven with him knocking out over 80% of his opponents, he has a good solid left hook which he likes to use on more then a few occasions in fights. Prescott has only been defeated once in his 22 professional fights that being his last outing to Miguel Vazquez by a 10 round split decision. He has fast hands, mix that with his powerful right hand and he certainly is a recipe for disaster for anyone willing to take him on.

The man that will be in the opposite corner to Prescott is undefeated British fighter Kevin Mitchell (29-0, 22 KO’s), 25 year old Mitchell official moved up to the lightweight division after previously fighting at 130lbs (super featherweight) for a while. Just like Prescott, Mitchell has excellent power knocking out just over 75% of his opponents. Mitchell has had a brilliant streak of stoppages in fact to find the last time he failed to stop an opponent you have to go back 8 fights to October 2006 when George Ashie of Ghana took him the full 12 rounds only for Mitchell to win by unanimous decision. Mitchell has a solid chin and an effective jab, he is a classy boxer with tones and tones of talent and who will most defiantly become a world champion.

Prescott although has beaten Amir Khan, in late has gone painfully unimpressive showing in his last fight and his fight against veteran Humberto Toledo were he failed to thrill with his performance, Prescott can be easily defeated by anyone who has the slightest bit of boxing ability, and as long as they stay out of the way of his right hand unlike Amir Khan who made that mistake and paid the ultimate price. Prescott has never been 12 rounds the maximum he has gone is 10 so it will be good to see if he can manage the full champion’s rounds.

Mitchell does tend to sometimes jump in with his head exposed, this works well against less skillful boxers whom he has been fighting but fighters that are experts could cause Mitchell a few problems. Another issue that could possibly be a down fall of Mitchell is his inability to fight at range this means he fights toe to toe a lot and with some fighters this could expose Mitchell.

So who will win? After weighing up both fighter’s strengths and weaknesses the conclusion for this fight is a long exciting battle, with Mitchell winning via a point’s decision, this is of course if he uses his boxing ability in that case I’m sorry to say but Prescott has no chance, however if it’s a brawl then the fight could go either way. I however am still going for Mitchell by an impressive point’s victory. Who’s your money on?
