Mayweather-Pacquiao: Part of my dream list for 2010

By Peter Wells: As the year of 2009 draws to a close with only 6 fighting weeks remaining, and only a few big fights to draw a close to a controversial and exciting year. It is now time to start to look ahead to 2010, fights are being made and whispers are spreading around, but there are so many fights we want to see next year it seems impossible to cram it all in. Here is my list of fights that I would love to see happen next year, not all of them will be hugely appealing to most people but they are fights that make sense:

Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Manny Pacquiao

pacquiao4534346Let’s start with the obvious one, now who cares if Mayweather is a little boring, still this is the biggest fight in the history of boxing and ultimately has to happen. Money is a big issue here and both fighters will want the larger amount, but if you ask me they should fight for the right to take the extra cash. This fight should happen about March, April next year and would be the biggest event ever in boxing.

Juan Manuel Lopez vs Celestino Caballero

I honestly felt this fight should have happened this year, but unfortunately it didn’t. Lopez in his last fight with Mtagwa was shown he can be vulnerable, and Caballero can punch very hard. It’s a fight that is already being set up so don’t worry this fight will happen next year, and trust me it’ll be explosive and don’t be surprised if it doesn’t reach the second half of the fight.

Paul Williams vs Kelly Pavlik

This has to happen, Kelly has no excuses now and this fight must go ahead, firstly it’s the only good fight at Middleweight for either of them and secondly Kelly Pavlik has to pay his respect after cancelling their fight this year and choosing to fight a much lesser opponent the same month. I don’t know if this happen for sure, we all know what was Pavlik is like.

Shane Mosley vs. Winner of Mayweather/Pacquiao

Sugar Shane does deserve this fight and would be a cracker to end the year on. Mayweather would be a much less intriguing bout, while Pacquiao would be an absolute dynamite fight. Obviously Manny and Floyd haven’t arranged anything yet but if they do then Mosley should be at the end of the road for either of them.

David Haye vs Vitali or Wladimir Klitschko

Well we all no this is gonna happen sooner or later and Haye has respected Ruiz stepping aside to allow him to fight Valuev and will defend against him next year. As long as David and at least one of the Klitschko’s don’t slip up this should be a very straight forward bout, and to be fair to both fighters this should take place in America. I don’t know who’ll get that chance at Haye, but I’ll probably go for Vitali first. And if Haye wins we might see a Haye-Adamek in 2011 and that will be the best Heavyweight bout we’ve seen in years.

Chad Dawson vs Jean Pascal

Chad and Jean are both young fighters in their prime, and they are both heading straight at each other- as long as Jean Pascal came beat doesn’t slip up against Diaconu in their rematch after Pascal dethroned the former WBC Light Heavyweight champion. Chad Dawson has already two past their best fighters twice in Glen Johnson and Antonio Tarver, his best victory coming against Tomasz Adamek who now fights as a Heavyweight and hasn’t been beaten since. So this would be a very intriguing bout with lots of questions surrounding it, let’s just wait and see if this fight can be pulled off

Other fights I’d like to see next year:

Devon Alexander vs Timothy Bradley

Tomasz Adamek vs Vitali or Wladimir Klitschko

Israel Vazquez vs Rafael Marquez VI

Ricardo Torres vs Kendall Holt III

Joseph Agbeko vs Yhonny Perez II

Nonito Donaire vs Vic Darchinyan II

Antonio Margarito vs Joshua Clottey II

Amir Khan vs Marcos Maidana

Lovemore N’dou vs Matthew Hatton II

John Murray vs Winner of Khan/Maidana

If anyone has any suggestions please add them, thank you for reading.
