Haye-Valuev: Can David Keep The Pace To Get A Decision?

val7By Julie Wells: This is my first article and first of all I’d like to talk about next weekend’s heavyweight showdown between David Haye and 7ft 2in giant Nikolay Valuev. David Haye has done all the talking but now it’s time to do the work. First of all, Haye has a huge disadvantage in size and it will be hard to get his punches on Valuev’s chin without taking a clubber on the jaw. Secondly, and the main thing is winning a close decision in Germany.

Look what happened to Evander Holyfield. Haye is not used to keeping a big pace for 12 rounds and even if he dominates the first 6 rounds, if he tires then the judges will give it to Nikolay. Despite Haye’s massive punching power, I can’t see him knocking out Valuev and you can’t wear this guy down, because he doesn’t do anything. Haye has a big task of saving Heavyweight boxing, in one year he’s got under the skin of the three heavyweight kings and only managed to fight one (as long as he doesn’t have to pull out again).

This is his last chance he loses hear and he can kiss the Klitschko’s goodbye. Hopefully, Kevin Johnson can be crowned WBC Champion in December as he takes on the older brother Vitali. David Haye’s main fight where he run out of gas was his only loss to Carl Thompson. After flooring Thompson, Haye was stopped in the 5th. But that was 5 years ago and has great wins over Giacobbe Fragomeni with a 11th round KO and coming from a knockdown to stop Jean Marc Mormeck in the 7th round with the best uppercut since Mike Tyson. Plus, Haye’s last cruiserweight showdown with Enzo Maccarinelli in the 2nd round where he displayed the best performance of his career showing his brutal power.

Then, Haye’s heavyweight debut against tough veteran Monte Barrett, scoring five knockdowns despite going down himself. So Haye’s chin isn’t that good, but he can punch like hell. So despite Valuev’s chin, Haye is the hardest puncher in boxing and should knock the Giant on his back and I doubt Valuev will make it up in about the 7th round.
