Fillingham’s 5 Star Predictions: Huck-Afolabi, Khan-Salita, More!

khan4338By Adam Fillingham: Hi folks. It’s the article I’m sure you’ve all been waiting for, or not, it’s my predictions for the next few big fights. Using my boxing expertise I will tell you where the best place to put your money is.

Marco Huck Vs Ola Afolabi

The first fight in the boxing schedule is the bout between the newly crowned WBO cruiserweight champion Marco Huck and the Interim title holder Ola Afolabi. This is Marco’s first defence and it will not be an easy one. Huck is one of my favourite fighters and I think he will have just enough to get past the tough Brit/Nigerian. My bet is for Afolabi to start slow but to pick it up towards the end as Huck tires but will not do enough to get the win.

Marco Huck 12 round UD (retains WBO title)

Amir Khan Vs Dmitriy Salita

Amir Khan will be defending his title for the first time too, when he comes up against unbeaten but untested Dmitriy Salita. Khan is by far the favourite although his shaky chin will always be an issue. Salita in my opinion should not be in the number one spot by the WBA and shouldn’t even be in a position to challenge for the world title. I can’t see any way that Salita can win this one with his little speed and little power.

Amir Khan lopsided 12 round UD (retains WBA title)

Breidis Prescott Vs Kevin Mitchell

Kevin Mitchell, undefeated, untested. Breidis Prescott, tested, defeated. Both men have high knock out records. Both men have leaky defences. So expect a great gun show come December the 5th. This fight is much harder to predict. Mitchell is the better boxer but you cannot take Prescott’s amazing power out of the frame.

Prescott 10th Round TKO

Paul Williams Vs Sergio Gabriel Martinez

Along with the other 3 fights this fight will be taking place on the 5th of December. On this date Paul Williams, who just missed out on a fight with Pavlik after Pavlik pulled out, will be fighting less of a big name in Martinez. Don’t right off Sergio though. He is the interim WBC light middleweight champion (although the bout will be at middleweight) and his only loss came at the hands of Antonio Margarito early in his career. I have all confidence though that Williams will win. His sheer size over anything will win the fight, at least in my eyes.

Paul Williams Lopsided 12 round UD

Shane Mosley Vs Andre Berto

Mosley is currently chasing a fight with the winner of the bout between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, so there is so much for him to lose come January 30th. Andre is skilled and is a good fighter, but Mosley is a world class fighter and I think Shane will have Berto’s number in this one. The only pro I can see amongst plenty of cons is that Mosley has been out of action for a long time, not fighting for nearly a year since his defeat of Antonio Margarito.

Shane Mosley close 12 round UD (retains WBA world title) (wins WBC world title)

Bernard Hopkins Vs Roy Jones Jr

On March the thirteenth (if Jones Jr gets past Danny Green) two world legends will face off. 44 year old Bernard Hopkins will face 40 year old Roy Jones Jr in a rematch 16 years after their first fight. Hopkins is still fighting at the top level but Jones Jr has been losing and the top level and has been defeating mainly B-level opposition in recent years. This fight will be close but for me there will only be one winner. Bernard Hopkins. As much as I respect Jones I just don’t think he has the ability to defeat the top level fighters anymore.

Hopkins close 12 round UD

Will I get them all right? I am confident, but I will guarantee that if I do get any wrong then I won’t be making up any excuses like some writers on this website.
