Cotto vs. Pacquiao – May the best man (Cotto) win!

cotto453434By Liam Santiago: In just over 24 hours, Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto will be ready to face off for the pound for pound title. As I scan the recent articles, I notice very few experts are giving Miguel Cotto a chance. Even legendary boxing pundit, Steve Bunce has completely wrote Cotto off, claiming he is ”so slow”. How very wrong all these critics are.

Firstly, I must just clear this up. Cotto is not slow. He might not dance around the ring as fast as Pacquiao but he is by no means slow. I wonder if any of these critics calling Cotto slow have ever seen him fight? He can throw a combination at lightning pace. He is also a lot more elusive than critics give him credit for. Believe me, he is not easy to hit. However, most fans are asking the question what does Cotto have left after Margarito?

Floyd Mayweather Jnr. has predicted Pacquiao to win because Cotto has nothing left after Margarito, as have many other experts. But, lets be sensible, Pacquiao could never give Cotto the beating Margarito did, weather he used illegal substances or not. After what Pac-Man did to Ricky Hatton people see him as a little Mike Tyson. Wrong again. Hatton was in no state to be fighting, and although that is no excuse in defeat, it explains why he went to the canvas three times. Oscar De La Hoya described Pacquiao’s punches as more slaps than punches. Apparently he could have stuck his head out and let him hit it all night.

So Freddie Roach’s prediction that Pacquiao will knock Cotto out in the first round is a load of bol**cks. Pacquiao will start well, winning the first two or three rounds. Then Cotto will start to dominate. He will win by decision or late stoppage. Have you watched the 24/7 episodes for this bout yet? No? Well you should. Cotto seems 100% focused. Pacquiao is up to all sorts, making films, meeting fans etc etc. Pacquiao is taking Cotto far too lightly, he thinks he is invincible and to be honest he is not.

I have said I will never write a boxing article again if Cotto loses and I stick by it. Cotto by late knockout.
