I Think Khan would Beat Hatton

hatton4524358By Scott Gilfoid: I personally can’t stand Amir Khan and Ricky Hatton, but I got to say that if they ever fight, Khan will win with ease. Hatton is sitting back right now still resting and looking for motivation to restart his boxing career.

Most people assume quite correctly that Hatton will decide to make a comeback in early 2010. During that time, Hatton likely won’t be looking for any tune-ups over journeyman fighters because he’s going to want to get every last penny out of his fights and he won’t be able to do that by fighting some unknown fighter that the boxing public could care less about.

That’s where Khan comes in. Hatton will look at Khan and see what I see in him. A fighter with fast hands, good movement but a chin made of glass. Hatton will no doubt want to get a big payday without the worry of being knocked out once again. Hatton has suffered two bad knockouts in the past two years against Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao, so he won’t want to take on anyone dangerous like Marcos Maidana and risk getting stretched for a third time.

There’s a ton of other fighters out there for Hatton to fight besides Khan, but most of them are far too dangerous for Hatton due to their power, hand speed and boxing ability. Besides all that, few of them have a big enough name for Hatton to want to risk fighting them. And unlike Khan, these fighters don’t have a glass chin like Khan does.

This is why I think Hatton will opt to take on Khan first in 2010, so that Ricky can take the easy money fight while Khan is still relevant in the boxing world. It works out well for Hatton if he moves quickly to retain a fight with Khan after Amir destroys Dmitry Salita in December.

If Hatton waits too long, there’s a danger that Khan will fight the interim World Boxing Association light welterweight champion Marcos Maidana and get knocked out. In that case, there would be little point in Hatton fighting Khan because he would have already been exposed for the second time in his career and it would ruin the public interest in a Hatton-Khan fight.

If Khan and Hatton fight in 2010, I think Khan will destroy Hatton without any problems. Khan’s chin may be like glass, but his trainer Freddie Roach has already done a commendable job of teaching Khan to avoid getting hit as much. It’s made Khan a much more boring fighter than he was before, to be sure. However, at least Khan isn’t getting knocked out like he was against Breidis Prescott.

Khan looked like a fish out of water in that fight, flopping around on the canvas like he belonged there. Pacquiao has already set the blueprint on how to beat Hatton. You just wait around for Hatton to try and throw one of his wild left hooks and then tag him with either a left hook or a straight right hand while Hatton is in mid leap.

Hatton is pretty predictable when he throws his hooks and badly telegraphs them. Before their training camp is over, Roach will have Khan ready and dialed in to take advantage of Hatton every time he attempts to throw a hook. The end result will be Hatton being knocked cold and finished as a fighter.

Hatton would obviously retire after being knocked out by Khan. But at least Hatton would get a good payday for his final fight of his career.
