Arreola Plans to Pressure and Wear Klitschko Out

arreola89223By Jason Kim: Undefeated heavyweight contender Chris Arreola (27-0, 24 KO’s) Has made it known that he plans on pressuring World Boxing Council heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (37-2, 36 KO’s) on September 26th at the Staples Center, in Lon Angeles, California. Some boxing fans feel that Arreola, 28, stands no chance in this fight with the 38-year-old Klitschko.

However, Arreola has a lot of things going for him in this fight that boxing fans are overlooking in a big way. Arreola is the younger fighter by 10 years and has more youth and energy than the old injury plagued Klitschko. You can’t overlook the youth factor for a second because a fighter as young as Arreola, even though he’s a bit on the fat side, he still is much younger and likely able to fight hard for a longer period of time before wearing down.

Arreola has taken some heat lately for revealing that he’s weighing in the neighborhood of 260 with only two weeks to go before the fight. However, Arreola is obviously pulling the wool over the boxing public’s eyes and in turn the eyes of Klitschko, because just by looking at Arreola’s photos, you can see that he’s around 240, possibly even 235.

He looks in much better shape than he’s been in his last three fights. In fact, I think Arreola looks to be in the best shape since he fought Chazz Witherspoon in June 2008. Arreola came in at 239 in that fight and looked both powerful and quick. I see him Arreola looking no worse than he did in that fight. And if Arreola does come in at that weight, Vitali Klitschko is going to find himself in a lot of trouble.

The weight isn’t an issue for Arreola now. He’s more muscular now than he has in a long time and doesn’t have that slightly emaciated look that he had in his last fight with Jameel McCline in April. I’m not sure who was in control over Arreola’s diet plan for that fight but whoever it was, they seemed to have him not eating enough calories before the fight because he looked to have lost too much muscle and had a saggy, emaciated look about him.

This time, Arreola has gone about his training the correct way and is eating correctly. Never mind that Arreola will still look bad in comparison to Klitschko on fight night, just as long as Arreola is able to fight hard and use his power, it won’t matter how bad he looks in comparison to Klitschko.

The important part for this fight is Arreola’s stamina. If he is able to fight hard for at least 10 good rounds, I give Arreola an excellent chance of wearing Klitschko down and knocking him out. It may sound a little farfetched, I know, but I think it’s absolutely possible as long as Arreola’s body will allow him to pressure Vitali for 10 rounds without wearing down.

Thus far, Arreola hasn’t had to go 10 rounds against anybody because he’s been able to knock most of his opponents out before the 8th round, which by the way, is the longest that Arreola has ever had to fight in his six year pro career.
