Should Hatton face the loser of Cotto vs. Pacquiao?

hat411By Liam Santiago: As a boxing expert, I am happy. Ricky Hatton has announced he will fight again and he will be aiming for the pound for pound title. The big question every boxing fan is asking is who is he going to fight? Of course, he is coming of a lethal knock out defeat, which was mainly down to his preparation and a certain Poet. Why not go after the loser of Pacquiao vs Cotto? Both will be coming of a defeat and both will be big money spinners.

Of course, if Cotto beats Pacquiao and Hatton does manage to get his rematch, there will be an uproar. The critics will surface. Hatton is ‘shot’ they will say. Hatton is not in Pac-Man’s league. Well, critics, that is where you are wrong. The demon’s from Hatton’s defeat to Pacquiao will not be as great as people assume. He knows why he lost. He knows he did not lose because of talent of quality. He lost simply because, he was past his peak and his trainer had mentally shook him up prior to the fight. He would have a completely different approach next time round.

If a miracle happens at the Cotto vs Pacquiao fight and Cotto somehow loses, he would also make for a great opponent for the big punching, major ticket selling, knock out artist, Ricky Hatton. What a clash of styles that would be. Like Hatton, Cotto is a major ticket seller, so the fight would also make financial sense. This would be an opponent for Hatton that I could not predict a victory for either fighter. Both are simply class. However, watching Cotto beat Clottey, I saw a lot of flaws and opportunity’s that Hatton would not have let go by the way side.

Would Pacquiao have the guts to face Hatton again? I would give him full credit if he does. When Ricky is at his peak, I really can not see the Filipino beating him. The circumstances prior to the Pacquiao fight had an impact on Hatton’s punch resistance. If the loser of the Cotto vs Pacquiao fight does fight Hatton, I am sure we will be looking at a Hatton/Pacquiao rematch. Adios.
