Mayweather vs. Marquez: Here’s a reason Why it’s Good if Floyd Loses

mayweather4334437By Adam Wells: Maybe the best thing to come from this upcoming bout with Floyd Mayweather and Juan Manuel Marquez would be a defeat to Floyd Mayweather. No not to dent the huge ego and not for the glory of his opponent but for us fight fans to finally see the best of Pretty Boy. From the moment he won his fist world title at junior lightweight (130lbs) against then champion Genaro Hernandez Floyd has been accused of “ducking” the best in favour of fights that would either suit his style or suit his pocket.

People point to names such as Cotto, Margharito and Shane Mosely as just three top welterweights he has “ducked” and are sure all three would nail his backside to the ring.

Don’t get me wrong i am no Floyd Mayweather fan but i could point to fighters Floyd HAS called out who’s stocks were high at the time. Remember a fighter can’t fight every single man in 6 weight divisions so there are always going to be accusations of “ducking”

Floyd called out Zab Judah after Zab had destroyed Cory Spinks and was ranked in every boxing “experts” top 10 P4P. Judah was upset by Carlos Baldomir who then became lineal champion. Floyd showed the tough Argentinian how to box AFTER defeating Zab in what was a lesson to the TWO top rated welters of the time.

My point is after these Floyd went after Oscar for obvious reasons money and fame but NOT for the fact that Oscar De La Hoya was still a dangerous fighter who still had what it took to beat Mayweather.

Therefore in my humble opinion the best thing to come out of this fight next month is for Floyd Mayweather to lose his “oh” and therefore any reason for him to “duck” any of the top fighters of the day. He is lucky guys such as Manny Pacquiao, Miguel Cotto, Sugar Shane Mosely and possibly even Paul Williams are still around as it is not too late for this brilliant pugilist to cement a legacy rather than protect a perfect record.

Roll on this fight and hopefully a JMM win although being perfectly honest all i can see is another unanimous victory for the Pretty Boy.
