Pacquiao Agrees to Fight Mosley

By Manuel Perez: It looks as if Manny Pacquiao finally decided to fight World Boxing Association welterweight champion Shane Mosley (46-5, 39 KOs), according to GMA News site. Pacquiao, 30, has agreed to the fight, although he still needs to negotiate the terms of the fight with the 37-year-old Mosley.

What is known is that Pacquiao will be fighting Mosley at a catch weight which is probably something along the lines of 142 to 143. It doesn’t matter all that much. The main thing is that Pacquiao has agreed to fight Mosley, and we can finally get those two in the ring so we can have Pacquiao in with a good fighter.

Mosley is willing to take the smaller cut of 40% the purse with Pacquiao getting the much larger share, according to the report. If Mosley is okay with that, then I suppose it’s alright with me too. Personally, I think Mosley should have held out for a 50-50 cut, because I see him as being more popular than Pacquiao in the United States, which is where this bout will probably be fought. But whatever.

Mosley will make a god awful amount of money even with the 40% cut because this fight is going to be huge or at least I hope it will be. This will be a good test to see how popular these two fighters are without Oscar De La Hoya and Ricky Hatton being in the picture.

Pacquiao has fought both of those guys in his last two fights and has made a ton of money with the huge PPV revenue that has come in with the bouts. Whether that’s from Hatton/De La Hoya or Pacquiao remains to be seen. If a fight with Mosley doesn’t draw flies, I think we have a pretty good idea what the case is.

Mosley defeated Antonio Margarito in January 2009 to win the WBA welterweight title in a 9th round stoppage. The win has done a lot to revive the career of Mosley, who due to his losses to Winky Wright and Miguel Cotto, had been thought of as a fighter that was on the decline by a ton of boxing fans.

Mosley did a lot of clinching and punching to beat Margarito. I think Mosley should have been penalized in the fight for his constant clinching because he was grabbing Margarito after almost every punch to keep him from hitting him back.

Had there been minimal clinching in that fight, I’m doubtful that Mosley would have beaten Margarito. Let’s hope that Mosley doesn’t do the same thing against Pacquiao because I’m not in the mood to see a bunch of grabbing and holding all night.

That was a terrible fight to watch and I don’t want to be bored to tears again. Mosley doesn’t need to clinch Pacquiao to beat him. All he has to do is let his hands go and I see Mosley beating Pacquiao up and knocking him out. Pacquiao made a big mistake in taking this fight and he’s going to be sorry afterwards when they’re peeling him off the canvas. I can’t wait to see it.
