trinidad44By Manuel Perez: According to Elnuevodia, Felix Trinidad (42-3, 35 KOs)and Bernard Hopkins (49-5-1, 32 KOs) may be fighting a rematch in November this year. According to the article, Trinidad met with promoter Don King about making the revenge match against the 44-year-old Hopkins in November. King said “We are going to make the revenge with Bernard Hopkins, the revenge that to Tito Trinidad it needs to do.”

It’s been eight long years since Hopkins defeated Trinidad by a 12th round knockout to capture Trinidad’s WBA middleweight title. The fight was mostly one-sided as Hopkins used his jab, movement and quick flurries to dominate the smaller Trinidad for 11 rounds before knocking him out in the 12th.

The bout will be at 168 rather than Trinidad’s old weight of 147. Apparently, Hopkins is the one that initiated the talks for the rematch according to the article, which is somewhat odd because Hopkins seems to have a lot left in the tank and can probably pick and choose anyone to fight.

Trinidad, now 36, has only fought five times in the past eight years and has lost three of them. Trinidad didn’t look good in his last fight, a 12-round decision loss to Roy Jones Jr. last year. Trinidad was dropped twice in the fight and looked old and slow. However, he still did have a lot of power in the few times that Trinidad was able to catch up to Jones in the fight.

But against Hopkins, who is even quicker than Jones, I can’t see Trinidad doing any better than last time out. It’ll probably even more of a mismatch now then it was back then with Trinidad likely getting knocked out early in the fight unless Hopkins decides to have mercy on him and carry him through the bout. That would be a nice gesture on Hopkins’ part but it still won’t cover up the fact that the bout will be one-sided.
