Manchester, England (March 4, 2009). During a national conference call held today for members of the media, Ricky Hatton’s trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr. all but ensured a Hatton victory over his next opponent Manny Pacquiao when the two meet in a world junior welterweight championship on Saturday, May 2 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and live on HBO Pay-Per-View. Here is what Mayweather, who is currently training Hatton in Manchester, England, had to say:

Why he thinks Hatton will beat and most likely knock-out Manny Pacquiao:

“Because first of all I’ve got the best fighter and I am the best trainer. That’s the reason right there. I am the best and he is the best.

“Everything is mapped out. Ricky is trying to be nice, but it’s a simple fact that we gonna bust his ass up. Simple as that. . . we gonna whup his ass.

“I am going to be honest with you. I think Ricky has a very very good chance of knocking Pacquiao out. I think a knockout is going to be more likely than anything. Ricky’s chances are very great at that.

“This ain’t no dehydrated Oscar de la Hoya Pacquiao is fighting now. He is fighting with a man that has real strength. A guy that can keep pressure on him, smart pressure, head movement, jabbing on the way in, banging through the body, banging through the head and smothering him at the same time. It’s going to be hard for him to deal with.”

On Freddie Roach:

“Trust me, Freddie (Roach) is a joke Coach Roach wouldn’t dare to approach. Believe me you will find that out.

“I will be honest with you that’s a bunch of nonsense. They’ve got him in the Hall of Fame, he should be in the Hall of Shame. Let’s tell the truth like it is. You see Freddie Roach train, and you see me train, it’s night and day. It doesn’t even compare. Doesn’t even come close. I mean let’s be real. Tell the truth. Freddie Roach is a joke. And that’s what I say. That’s why his name is Freddie the joke Coach Roach.”

Derrick Samuels vs Roberto Valenzuela to headline “Fight Night” At the A La Carte Event Pavilion March 27!

Rising Junior Welterweight Derrick “Super” Samuels 16-4-1 (4 KO’s) of Orlando, FL will risk his NABA-US title Friday March 27 against grizzled 95 fight veteran Roberto Valenzuela. Valenzuela of Sonora, Mexico, has gone to war with many champions and contenders including Jose Luis Castillo, Andre Berto, Cesar Bazan, and Demetrius Hopkins. The Samuels-Valenzuela bout is scheduled for ten rounds.

The undercard will be topped by two exciting co-main events. The first will feature an eight round Cruiserweight showdown between Floridians Nicholas Iannuzzi 9-0 (6 KO’s) of Tampa and Theo Kruger 9-7-1 (3 KO’s) of Port Charlotte. Iannuzzi is making a much anticipated return following his impressive 5th round KO against previously unbeaten Terry Roy last November. The experienced Kruger has only lost once in his last four fights.

The second co-feature will display immensely talented Welterweight prospect Keith “One Time” Thurman 8-0 (8 KO’s) of Clearwater, FL. Thurman, the 2008 Olympic Trials Silver Medalist, will face an opponent to be named shortly in a six rounder. Thus far, Thurman has stopped every fighter to step into the ring with him during the first round.

Carlos Rivera will be making his second trip to the ring in less than 45 days as he is scheduled to battle an opponent TBA in a six round Featherweight bout. The Port Richey, FL based prospect, whose pro ledger stands at 15-3-2 (5 KO’s), is coming off a victory over contender Johnnie Edwards on February 13.

Featherweight Jenna “Cowgirl” Shiver 7-4-1 (2 KO’s) of Tampa will battle Pennsylvania’s Christina Leadbeater 2-1 over four. Unbeaten Light Heavyweight Adam Hubinger 12-0 (10 KO’s) will challenge the ever famous TBA over six rounds.

Rounding off the card is a four rounder between Featherweights Charlie Serrano 7-2 (2 KO’s) of Tampa and Jason Rorie 2-2-2 (1 KO). Rorie, who is based out of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, is a tricky fighter that is tougher than his record indicates.

Tickets can be ordered by going to Ticketmaster.com. The A La Carte Pavilion is located at 4050 Dana Shores Drive in Tampa, Florida. The card is being promoted by Starfight Productions.

Starfight Productions is based out of Tampa, Florida and is operated by Aaron Jacobs, Shea Bailey, Pete Fernandez, Mike Asmer, and Randy Feldman.
