barrera5355337By Simon Hirst: It appears as if there is some doubt about the Khan-Barrera fight taking place now after Barrera suffered a cut in a warm up fight in Jalisco, Mexico. The Baby Faced Assassin picked the injury up in a low key fight that was title a ‘warm up’ bout for the Amir Khan fight. The fight was against Freudis Rojas, who actually came in as a late comer as Barrera’s original opponent John Nalasco failed to turn up to the weigh in.

Rojas made sure his name will be known with what was described as a blatant and deliberate butt wish caused a nasty gash above Barrera’s left eye. The butt was quite bad as it earned Rojas an instant disqualification.

However, further consequences could affect Amir Khan as it puts his dream date with destiny at the MEN Arena into doubt as it is just six weeks away. Barrera’s camp have yet to confirm how severe the cut actually is, but any kind of cut must hamper his preparations for the fight and if Barrera’s corner feel it is not worth the risk, they may pull out. This would be a huge blow for Khan who was said to be ‘over the moon’ at landing a fight against Barrera, but Barrera has it all to lose as he is scheduled to fight Nate Campbell for the title later this year. A loss because of not being able to train properly may cost him this and therefore, Barrera will think about his own prospects over Khan’s.

To date, nothing more has been said about this and until otherwise said, the bout will go ahead in six weeks time.
