Pacquiao Still Interested in Hatton Bout

pacquiao5324By Jason Kim: Quick to conduct some damage control, Manny Pacquiao had this to say about the failed negotiation process with Ricky Hatton: “I want to fight Ricky Hatton if the terms are right and fair. Now, I say to Ricky Hatton, king of the 140lb division, lets fight without the middlemen. You called me out, now I say we fight.” However, it looks as if Pacquiao is too late now, because Hatton has given up on him already and is moving on to other opponents, specifically Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Oscar De La Hoya.

Hatton had been trying to get a 50-50 purse split with Pacquiao for their planned May 2nd fight, but Pacquiao held out, asking for a 60-40 purse split, which Hatton felt wasn’t fair given that he would be bringing in a lot of PPV revenue for the fight due to the large British audience that would be paying to watch the fight.

Both Mayweather and De La Hoya are reportedly interested in fighting Hatton, which now effectively leaves Pacquiao out in the cold, frozen out. It’s unfortunate that Pacquiao couldn’t reach an agreement with Hatton because it means that Pacquiao will be losing a guaranteed $11 million for the fight. After missing a Wednesday signing deadline set by Hatton, Pacquiao is going to have to look into other options of opponents instead of Hatton.

However, though the fight negotiations are off for now, there’s still the possibility that Hatton and Pacquiao can come to an agreement at a later date, especially if the two of them continue to be successful against other opponents. Hatton will have it to try and keep on winning if he does decide on taking on Mayweather, because he was pretty well beaten by him in his fight with him in 2007, losing by a 10th round stoppage.

But that was without Hatton’s new trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr., the father of Floyd Jr. Mayweather Sr. is the one that taught his son how to fight and he has said that he knows how to defeat his style and plans on training Hatton if he decides on fighting Mayweather Jr. With the addition of Floyd Sr. as his trainer, Hatton has a good chance of beating Mayweather Jr., especially if the fight ends up in England, where Hatton wants the fight to take place.
