Joe Calzaghe vs Chad Dawson

First of all, people who have read my article may know I am a British fan, yet I choose skill over nationality and try to be as unbiased in my articles as I can. I would prefer to stick to facts more than opinion, but as it’s an article, I like to get my point across. Now I would want this fight to happen purely because Dawson is up there in the light heavyweights who Calzaghe hasn’t beaten. Personally I think the division is one of the most boring and least competitive divisions, so I can’t blame Dawson for having very little on his record that we can shout about. Many Americans see him as one of there top boxers and many Brits see Calzaghe as one of their top boxers, so why shouldn’t this fight happen. My only fear is that it’s not the big name Calzaghe craves for, but if it’s not, then Joe should publicly state who he wants. Dawson has signed for a rematch against Tarver, but hopefully this fight could follow.

Manny Pacquaio vs Floyd Mayweather

This fight would be an exciting fight for all and would probably break all box office records in boxing as the current pound for pound champion in most people’s eyes takes on the former pound for pound champion. Mayweather would hold the size advantage and would almost match Pacquaio for speed and it would be likely that he wouldn’t return straight into this fight without a warm up fight, which I would find interesting to who he chooses. The fight would be at Welterweight and probably not for a title. I believe people’s opinions are divided on who would win this one. Mayweather has one of the finest defences, if not the finest defence in boxing, he has speed, he can punch as he demonstrated against Hatton. However, Pacquaio can mix it up also and can be in there with his punches and out in the same second. I can’t see Mayweather being stopped but I can see Pacquaio snatching it on points!

Kelly Pavlik vs Mikkel Kessler

Kessler has established himself as a warrior in the super middleweight division, one division up from where Kelly Pavlik reigns supreme. Pavlik looked energy sapped at 170, where he was taken apart by ‘The Executioner’. I’d like to see him take on Abraham, preferably in America as there are some dodgy decisions taking place quite recently and namely in Europe. I think Kessler and Pavlik’s style would mix into a slugfest, similar to Froch vs Pascal if anyone watched that, where they would stand and trade blows. I don’t think this fight would sell big in America so preferable as a co main event, but I think it’s one that wouldn’t disappoint.

Daniel Jacobs vs Peter Manfredo Jr/Jeff Lacy

Now I know Danny Jacobs is still young and learning his trade in the super middleweight division and I’d hope if these fights took place, they’d take place in the latter of 2009, but I firmly believe these fights would give him a step up in class that he could deal with. I think he’d be too good for both these guys, and these guys, whilst aren’t exactly world class, are names and good experience. I really want this guy to win and feel he has a lot to give, probably in 2010/2011 and I would be interested, if no one else was, to see how Jacobs would fair in these fights.

David Haye vs Vitali Klitchsko

Now I now it’s already a done deal and we’ll definitely be seeing this, I know that American fans don’t rate Haye as much as most British fans don’t rate Arreola, but fact is, this is a fight that could spice up the division or it’s a fight that could keep it cold. Haye has bags of confident and doesn’t think the size advantage will matter. I’d like to see Haye have a tune up fight against someone of a similar build, but it remains to be seen if that will happen. Klitschko, whilst tall and strong, is beatable, he’s lost speed with his age, but gained experience and is easily the best current heavyweight at the moment.

Chris Arreola vs Wladmir Klitchsko

Klitschko, second best heavyweight behind his brother, is rumoured to take on Chris Arreola, in a match that will pit Klitschko’s superior boxing skills and weak chin against Arreola’s slugger and heavy handed approach. Wladmir has the ability to box the socks off Arreola, but in order to win this match, stamina for Wladmir would be key in order to maintain it. Should he get tired, he may come in for a pasting and his chin may not be able to take the abuse Arreola can dish out. With that said, Arreola, like Haye, has never fought anyone high up in the rankings, with Haye’s biggest opponent being Barrett and Walker being Arreola’s. Lack of experience may be vital and would give the much more experienced Klitschko’s the advantage.

Carl Froch vs Jermain Taylor

Froch, now the official WBC super middleweight champion against the number one contender, Jermain Taylor. I hope this is a fight that happens. A lot of people think Taylor would win this, Taylor of course has been in with very high class opponents, Hopkins and Wright spring to mind. Froch has been climbing a mountain in this division and back in May, couldn’t get a fight against anyone decent, three top fighters pulled out against him at short notice, so I hope the ducking stops and Froch can have his moment. A fight with Taylor would bring the best out in Froch, who likes to stand and trade, can take a punch and give a punch. Doubtful that it would be a Lacy-Calzaghe, but it would certainly be a cracking fight.
