By Scott Gilfoid: Undefeated British light middleweight Danny Reynolds (12-0, 7 KOs) easily destroyed his overmatched opponent Jason Rushton (17-5, 3 KOs) in a 1st round TKO on Saturday night at the Metrodome, Barnsley, in Yorkshire to win the BBBofC Central Area light middleweight title. Reynolds, 29, blitzed Rushton early and often, knocking him down three times in the round before the fight was ultimately stopped by the referee immediately after the 3rd knockdown.

At the start of the fight, Reynolds wasted little time in immediately crossing the ring and attacking Ruston fiercely, throwing wicked combinations without stopping for an instant. In fact, it wasn’t until some 15 punches later that Ruston finally got a shot in of his own, landing a right hand. The fight was interrupted for a glove repair for Ruston after Reynolds landed one more combination.

The interruption lasted around two minutes, and Ruston must have been thinking a lot during this time about what to do with Reynolds, because it had been ugly in the opening minute of the round. If Rushton had any ideas on how to change the fight, he sure didn’t show it, for as soon as the action resumed, Reynolds continued with his one-sided beating of Rushton.

At one point, Reynolds landed some thirty consecutive shots as Ruston was stuck on the ropes. I figured that the referee would step in at any moment and stop the fight, but the slaughter was allowed to continue. Somehow, Rushton slid off the ropes but that didn’t change the course of the fight as Reynolds continued pounding away on Rushton as if he was bending a piece of medal. Finally, Reynolds landed a powerful shot to the midsection of Rushton, knocking him to the canvas. Upon getting up, Rushton received a standing eight count from the referee, and then action was resumed.

Reynolds wasted little time in going directly to what had worked previously, namely going to the body with heavy shots. Six body shots later, and Rushton was knocked down again by a left hook to the midsection. Once again, he received a standing eight count and was allowed to continue. Reynolds met him with a blizzard of punches, ending with another blistering left hand to the body that dropped Rushton for the third and final time in the round. This time, Rushton was hurt and stayed down lying on his stomach and was quickly counted out by the referee.
