Wilder vs. Stiverne purse bid postponed again?

deontay111By Scott Gilfoid: Dan Rafael of ESPN is reporting that the purse bid scheduled for today between WBC heavyweight champion Bermane Stiverne and Deontay Wilder has been postponed for some unexplained reason.

If this turns out to be the case it would be the 2nd time the Wilder-Stiverne purse bids have been postponed, and it just makes you wonder how many times the World Boxing Council will allow the purse bids to be postponed before they finally put their foot down and force the issue.

In the past, former WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko has a couple of canceled purse bids for what should have been his title defense against Stiverne. Vitali ended up vacating the title rather than taking the fight.

“I’m told by multiple sources Stiverne-Wilder purse bid, scheduled for today, has been ppd [postponed] for 2nd time. #boxing,” Rafael said on his twitter.

Unless there’s going to be another Stiverne-Wilder purse bid rescheduled in the near future, you would have to think that this is going to cause a delay in their fight. There had been talk of them fighting in November and then most recently in mid-December, but that seems all but impossible now. My guess is the Wilder-Stiverne fight won’t take place until 2015, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it doesn’t take place until April or May, if then. This fight seems like it’s going to drag on and on and on.

Golden Boy Promotions president Oscar De La Hoya said this week that negotiations with Stiverne’s promoter Don King haven’t gone anywhere. He spoke to King, but nothing was concluded from the conversation.

If the Wilder-Stiverne fight does go to a purse bid, there’s a chance that Roc Nation Sports could come in and potentially lay out a huge bid for the fight. That would give Stiverne a chance of getting a big payday out of this fight, but that obviously can’t happen if the purse bids keep getting postponed left and right.
