Ward-Abraham: Andre looking to show his stuff

By Scott Gilfoid: WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward (23-0, 13 KO’s) has one of his easier fights in the Super Six tournament coming up against Arthur Abraham (31-2, 25 Kos’) in the semifinals in May of this year. Ward, 26, has already showed that he’s the best fighter in the tournament with near shut out wins over Mikkel Kessler and Allan Green. Ward will next go up against Abraham, a fighter who has lost his last two fights and has barely won any rounds in both defeats.

Abraham basically has to knockout Ward if he wants to win this fight, and the chances of that happening are going to be slim and none. Ward is going to change his style of fighting in this bout and won’t be looking to slug on the inside like he’s been doing. You can look for Ward to adapt and go back to the style he was using before he started the Super Six tournament, when he was boxing circles against guys like Edison Miranda. Ward is so smooth on his feet, reminding one of a young Sugar Ray Robinson or Cassius Clay. Ward is that good.

He’s hard to hit, takes a good shot, can punch with power and is blazing fast. He’s like the most perfect fighter that you could ever dream of creating. It’s like mixing in the beat of Robinson, Clay, Foreman and Frazier all in one. Ward’s skills are going to be hard for the limited Abraham to deal with in this fight. Abraham does well against fighters that are standing directly in front of him making it easy for him to land his wild haymaker punches, but if you move a little, as Dirrell showed up in his masterful performance against Abraham last year, Abraham doesn’t have clue what to do in there.
