Steve Collins, 48, set to make a comeback against rival Roy Jones Jnr after a 15-year absence from the ring

By adizard: Former two division world champion Steve Collins (36-3, 21 KO’s) claims that he wanted to face Roy Jones Jnr during the 1990s, when the American was considered the pound-for-pound king, but his calls for the match-up had been unrequited.

Collins said to the dailymail.co.uk “It’s not a comeback as such, at my age I’m too old for that, but it will be the end of a 15-year grudge. I spoke to Roy and we’re going to get it on. He wants one more fight before he retires and this is the one he wants.”

Jones, 43, has a career resume of 56-8, and last fought in Poland in June 2012, defeating the little-known Pawel Glasewski on split points decision over 10 rounds.
Collins is set to take medical tests in the next week and will only go ahead with the match-up if he is given the all clear.

Collins, who twice defeated both Chris Eubank and Nigel Benn, retired in July 1997, with a record of 36 wins and three losses, having finished his run with seven defenses of the WBO super middleweight title.

Collins was also Appointed President of the Malta Boxing Commission in December last year.

Well I’m not too sure what to say about this one other than its 15 years too late! Sources say that Collins motivation is purely for the pay day and that is believable, and I suppose it’s just the same for Roy.

This could easily be turned into a disaster! An embarrassment to boxing as we know it… but… I bet 80% of readers here will be tuned in for it; it’s just one of those fights any fan especially from the 90’s will have to watch, even if it means glancing away in embarrassment for them.
