By Jim Dower: The tough as nails middleweight journeyman Michael Walker (19-19-3, 12 KO’s) was reportedly was found shot in Chicago on Thursday, according to Fightnews. He was taken to a nearby hospital where they pronounced him dead. There’s no word about who shot the 35-year-old Walker or why they did.

Walker is known for his battles against top fighters such as Daniel Jacobs, Andy Lee, Matt Karobov, Ricardo Mayorga, Ricardo Mayorga and many, many more well known fighters. Earlier in his career, Walker was considered a very good up and coming middleweight.

Walker started out his career in winning his first 18 fights before he was beaten for the first time by David Lopez in 2008. After that loss, Walker’s career went downhill with him losing to Jacobs, Derrick Findley, Fernando Guerrero, Andy Lee, Matt Karobov, Ricardo Mayorga, Billy Lyell, and Alonso Lopez in consecutive fights. Whoever was doing the matchmaking for Walker, they didn’t back him off after his initial loss to David Lopez. It would have been perhaps the smarter thing to back Walker off from tough opposition after the Lopez fight to boost his confidence against a lesser fighter or two. But instead, Walker was matched against some really tough fighters one after another without let up and his career predictably sank.
