Image: Jacobs-Pirog: ‘The Golden Child’ is ready to become a manBy Peter Wells: Every fighter has a time to become a man, everyone always remembers that first fight that made them a star, the fight that started their legacy. Daniel Jacobs 20-0(17KO’s) is tipped to become a new star, he has the full package and in his 21st outing since his debut in 2007 the 23 year old from Brooklyn, New York is about to start his legacy. So far he hasn’t failed to deliver, he hasn’t messed it up and he’s in a wide open Middleweight division. Is this the start of another great fighter, a new Pound-for-pound king, we will have to wait and see.

A PPV show is a great way to make his entrance in the world stage, but nothing comes easy in boxing and his challenger is also unbeaten and despite not being as well known, he’s a man who is ready to make a statement. Dmitriy Pirog 16-0(13KO’s) is 30 years old and hasn’t fought anyone of great note; he got his shot by winning WBO Asia Pacific Middleweight title. The Russian is 2 inches shorter and a class below Jacobs.

Jacobs hasn’t been paired with easy opposition but fighters he’s capable of beating who have respectful records and the ability to give Jacobs stern tests. Jacobs has only been the 10 rounds once while Pirog has gone the full 12.

Jacobs is a classy boxer, he has good hand and foot speed, a good defence and decent power, he makes minor mistakes but Pirog is not good enough to capitalise. Expect to see a top class performance from Jacobs as he easies away from round 1 with swift skills and great movement to beat Pirog down before finally stopping him in the 10th round.
