By Jim Dower: WBO cruiserweight champion Marco Huck (37-2-1, 26 KO’s) bludgeoned his 43-year-old opponent Firat Arslan (33-7-2, 21 KO’s) in stopping him in the 6th round on Saturday night at the Hanns-Martin-Schleyer Halle, Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Huck dropped Arslan twice in the 6th, and flurried on a badly hurt Arslan in the corner until the fight was halted with Arslan still on his feet.

In the first knockdown, Huck hurt Arslan with a big right hand. Huck then unloaded a storm of head shots that resulted in Arslan finally collapsing to the canvas. After Arslan got back to his feet, Huck landed to sledgehammer right hands to the head of Arslan to drop him for the 2nd time in the round. A shaky looking Arslan got back to his feet. Arslan was then trapped against the ropes by Huck and tagged with a couple of good shots before the referee stepped in to halt the slaughter.

Huck took a different approach to the fight than he had in their previous bout in 2012. Instead of letting Arslan get on his chest and work him over on the inside, Huck took a step back each time Arslan would crowd him, and he would then tag him with jabs straight up the middle or looping right hands that would go around the guard of Arslan to hit on the side of the head. It was a great strategy by Huck, as he was able to avoid getting punished on the inside like he had in their first fight.

In a non-competitive heavyweight clash, the 6’8″ David Price (16-2, 14 KO’s) crushed the much shorter 5’11” Istvan Ruzsinszky (12-10-1, 8 KO’s) by a 1st round knockout. Price knocked Ruzsinszky to the canvas with a hard shot to the body. The fight was then quickly stopped at 2:00 of the round. It’s too bad that Price’s new promoters at Sauerland Event didn’t let him fight a better opponent than this for his first bout with them, because he’s capable of facing better than this.

Other boxing results on the card:

Emanuele Blandamura SD 12 Marcos Nader
Enrico Koelling TKO 3 Paata Aduashvili
Noel Gevor KO 7 Loris Emiliani
Otto Wallin UD 4 Ferenc Zsalek
