Garcia-Judah: Danny with too much youth and power for Zab

Garcia and Judah argue(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Dan Ambrose: I’ve always liked Zab Judah (42-7, 29 KO’s) due to his ability to entertain and fight with a lot of heart even when he’s out of his class. With that said, I think Judah is going to be really out of his league on February 9th in his fight against WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (24-0, 16 KO’s ) on HBO at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, and I can’t see it going very well at all for Judah.

Garcia sees this fight as a mere formality. He knows he’s going to win and he sees Judah only making it to the 4th round before he knocks him out. Garcia knows that he’s got an old Judah that will be in the ring with him in this fight, and he’s not going to give him too much respect by letting him hang around like he did with Erik Morales in their first fight in March of this year.

Garcia fought a lot better in his rematch with Morales, knocking him out in the 4th round last October. In his bout before that, Garcia knocked Amir Khan out in the 4th round as well in July in a surprising win. A lot of boxing fans thought that Khan would win the fight, and indeed it looked as if that’s what was going to happen until Garcia caught Khan with a hard left hook to the neck in the 3rd round that knock Khan down. Khan never recovered from that shot and Garcia was able to knock him down twice more in the 4th round to get the stoppage victory.

Judah, 35, was selected for this fight based on being well know more so than being better than the other contenders in the division. He does have a recent win over WBC interim light welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse but it was a pretty empty hometown decision and it convinced only a tiny segment of the boxing community that he won the fight.

The rest of the fans who saw that fight saw Judah looking old and taking a beating from Matthysse in the last eight rounds of the fight, which included Judah getting knocked down by Matthysse in the 10th. That was bad scoring by the judges.

Judah did pick up a win over IBF light welterweight champion Kaizer Mabuza in March of last year in stopping him in the 7th. Judah didn’t keep the title for very long, as he was knocked out in the 5th round in his next fight by Amir Khan last year in July.
