Image: Donaire vs. Montiel: Blood, guts and pain - Watch Nonito crumbleBy Dave Lahr: On February 19th, former IBF flyweight champion Nonito Donaire (25-1, 17 KO’s) is going to experience pain and suffering like he’s never felt before during his cushy 10 year pro career when he faces WBC/WBO bantamweight champion Fernando Montiel (44-2-2, 34 KO’s) in a fight at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Donaire hasn’t been taken deep during his career. He’s always been the type that is good when he’s throwing shots and delivering the pain. When on the rare occasions that Donaire has been in with someone tough enough mentally to take his shots and keep throwing back their own, Donaire has looked uncomfortable and uneasy with suddenly getting hit.

The easy fights that he’s been in recently has effectively shielded Donaire from fights where he would have learned something about himself and learned how to take pain overcome it. On 2/19, Montiel is going to bring excruciating pain to Donaire, as he rips into his guts and his head with shots that would knock over a full grown moose.

We’re going to see Donaire literally backing away from the pain like hand being pulled away from a hot flame. Once the blood is flowing down Donaire’s face and his guts are in pain from the body shots he keeps getting hit with by Montiel, we’re going to see Donaire mentally crumble and quit on the fight. He’ll flop on the canvas and do a no mas or he’ll just stay down after he gets knocked down for the first time rather than getting up and trying to fight through the pain.
