Image: Donaire vs. Arce done for December 15th, says ArumBy Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is saying that the December 15th fight between WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (30-1, 19 KO’s) and 33-year-old former three division world champion Jorge Arce (61-6-2, 46 KO’s) is done for December 15th. The venue for the fight is still unknown but the fight itself is now done. The fight itself is a mismatch. Arce is well past his prime and should be fighting at flyweight, not super bantamweight. Donaire will knock him out in two or three rounds depending on if Arce comes to just survive or not. Hopefully, Arum will start matching Donaire up against quality fighters after Donaire destroys Arce because this isn’t interesting see Donaire fight old guys over and over again. His last opponent was 36-year-old Toshiaki Nishioki, who Donaire claimed was the best fighter at super bantamweight.

Arum said to the Manila Standard at manilastandardtoday.com/ “It’s a done deal.”

This is another one of Arum’s Mexico vs. the Philippines fights that he likes to put together due to the huge fan bases that these types of fights pool from. A week before this fight, Arum’s number #1 money fighter Manny Pacquiao will be fighting Juan Manuel Marquez. Pacquiao is from the Philippines and Marquez from Mexico. Arum also will have Miguel Vazquez vs. Mercito Gesta on the undercard of the Pacquiao-Marquez 4 fight in yet another Mexico vs. Philippines bout. It’s still unclear who will be on the undercard of the Arce vs. Donaire fight, as the fight was just now completed but my guess is it’ll stick to the Mexico vs. the Philippines theme.

As far as the Donaire-Arce fight goes, it’s likely to be a sick mismatch of epic proportions. I’m not sure if Arum is going to make this a pay per view bout or not, but if he does I sure hope he stacks the card with good fights because the main event between the much bigger, stronger, faster and younger Donaire and the slower, smaller, older and weaker Arce promises to be a terrible mismatch. If you though Donaire’s mismatch against the aging 36-year-old Toshiaki Nishioka was a bad one just wait until you see what Donaire does to the little 5’4″ Arce.

This won’t be competitive, believe me. Arce should be trying to be trying to clear up his poor performance from his fighter earlier this year against little known fighter Jesus M Rojas, who was giving Arce all kinds of problems in that fight when Arce hit the deck and said he was too injured to fight. I hope we don’t see the same thing happen to Arce when he starts taking a beating from Donaire because it’ll be a tremendous let down to all the fans who might be thinking this is a good competitive match-up. It’s not.

The Donaire-Arce fight is merely a bout between a younger fighter on the top of his game an older, smaller fighter that has seen better days in Arce. The guys that Donaire should be fighting are Guillermo Rigondeaux and Abner Mares, but Arum seems to be taking his time with these fights for some reason. I guess he wants to exhaust all the older lions in the super bantamweight division for Donaire before he puts him in with Rigondeaux or Mares, if he ever does. I have my doubts that he will.

I can see Donaire moving up in weight to featherweight after he faces Arce, because the featherweight division is mostly a weak division when you exclude Orlando Salido, Yuriorkis Gamboa and Mikey Garcia. A fighter like Donaire could find a place up there and capture a paper title and defend it for three or four years against little known opposition before he ages to the point where he’s no longer unbeatable.
