By Jim Dower: Once promising welterweight contender Richard Gutierrez (26-7-1, 16 KO’s) was beaten on Saturday night in middleweight action by Jonathan Gonzalez (14-0, 13 Ko’s) by a 10 round unanimous decision at the Roseland Ballroom, in New York, New York. The judges scored it 99-91, 98-92 and 98-92.

Bayamon, Puerto Rico’s undefeated featherweight Luis “Orlandito” del Valle (12-0, 10 KOs) left today for his training base in Newburgh, New York, to prepare for the biggest fight of his career against Vietnamese fighter Dat Nguyen (17-1, 6 KOs).
