By Dan Ambrose: Caleb Plant weighed 167 1/4 lbs, and David Benavidez came in at a slim-looking 166 3/4 lbs on Friday for their weigh-in for Saturday’s main event on Saturday Showtime PPV at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

During the face-off,  Plant (22-1, 13 KOs) put his left hand on the face of interim WBC super middleweight champion Benavidez (26-0, 13 KOs), causing him to go off and attempt to mix it up.

Benavidez looked painfully thin compared to his physical appearances in past weigh-ins, which makes some boxing fans wonder if he overtrained for this fight. If Benavidez left his best inside the gym, he’s going to be in trouble against Plant on Saturday night.

The Plant vs. Benavidez fight winner could face undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez next.

Jermall Charlo picks Plant to beat Benavidez

“I like Plant because he’s the underdog. Benavidez talks his talk, but it’s intriguing to see him try and walk his walk,” said Jermall Charlo to Fight Hub TV. “I like the fact that Plant is the underdog.

“If he prevails, you got the Canelo fight. It goes hand in hand with him being one of the champions of the world. Yeah, it’s possible,” said Charlo when asked if he can see Plant outboxing Benavidez in this fight.

“This fight is going to be based on who is in the best shape. He [Benavidez] is supposed to have abs. He’s a boxer. He’s supposed to have them, though. Sorry, he never had them.

“Strength is strength. Plant always had them. Can we say Plant always had them. Styles make fights. I don’t feel like it’s a 50-50 fight for either one. David Benavidez, we going to fight.

“If he want to fight me, we’re going to fight, but it is what it is. Whichever man train harder is going to win the fight, and then they move on to greater standards.

“They might overlook me after this fight. It’s a great fight. I might got to work my way back up to them. I might still have to show the fans of the world who I am. Who don’t know? I’ll show them,” said Jermall.
