Dave Allen asks Tyson Fury for fight in December

By Charles Brun: British domestic level heavyweight Dave Allen has come out of the woodwork to reveal that he’s already texted Tyson Fury to ask him to be his opponent for his December fight date.

WBC heavyweight champion Fury (30-0-1, 21 KOs) revealed earlier today to The Athletic that he’s “moved on,” and won’t be fighting former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay ‘The Bronze Bomber’ Wilder next.

Deontay Wilder out of the picture for Fury trilogy

Fury has given up on the trilogy match with Wilder (42-1-1, 41 KOs) after his management failed to set-up the fight by the December date that it was due.

Although Fury does plan on still fighting on December 5th, it won’t be against Wilder. Fury’s management is currently looking at different heavyweights to pick someone that can face him in December.

Dave Allen to fight Christian Hammer on Oct.31

Allen (18-5-2, 15 KO), who already is scheduled to face Christian Hammer (25-6, 15 KOs) later this month on October 31, says he told Fury that he wants a “Rocky 1” type of title shot given to him.

Hammer is viewed as the favorite in that fight, and it doesn’t make sense for Allen to already be looking past him.

With the way that Allen is ignoring what he already has on his plate with the Hammer fight, he comes across as a glutton in wanting more by asking Fury for a title shot.

While it may have worked for Rocky Balboa to be given a title shot by Apollo Creed in the original 1975 movie, ‘Rocky,’ things are a little bit different in the real world.

The World Boxing Council requires their world champions to defend against top 15-ranked contenders, even when making voluntary defenses. Allen, 28, isn’t a top tier heavyweight, and it’s unlikely that he ever will at this point.

“I texted Tyson a half hour ago and I said, ‘Big Hammer, let’s do it like Rocky 1. Give me the shot.‘ He texted back and said, ‘It would be a big fight. Maybe.’ So you never know,” said David Allen on social media on Monday about him asking Fury for a fight.

David Price destroyed Dave Allen in 2019

After the way that Allen was taken apart by David Price in a 10th round stoppage defeat last year in July 2019, he’s not in the best position to be begging Fury for a fight.

The way that Price dominated Allen, there’s no possibility that Fury could select him for his December 5th fight without inviting trouble from both the fans and the WBC.

Some British boxing fans have been bringing up Price’s name today as an opponent for Fury to defend his WBC title against in December, but that’s not going to fly either.

Price, 37, is coming off of a fourth-round knockout loss to Dereck Chisora in October 2019, and he’s not ranked in the top 15 by any o the sanctioning bodies at this time.

There are some good fighters in the WBC’s top 15 rankings that would be ideal for Fury to face in December, but it’s unclear whether they’re available to take the fight.

These are some good options for Fury’s December match:

  •  Oscar Rivas
  • Michael Hunter
  • Filip Hrgovic
  • Andy Ruiz Jr
  • Efe Ajagba
  • Charles Martin

Oscar Rivas is perhaps the guy that Top Rank will be trying to persuade Fury to face, as they promote him. It’s a win-win for Top Rank if Fury faces the Colombian Rivas.

The best of the bunch would be former IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz Jr (33-2, 22 KOs), but he’s coming off a loss to Anthony Joshua. Ruiz has started working with new trainer Eddy Reynoso, and he likely won’t agree to step in and face Fury on just two months’ notice.

If Ruiz hadn’t made millions from his two fights with Joshua, he would likely jump in to take the fight with Fury on three weeks’ notice the way he did against AJ in June 2019, but things are different now. Ruiz has made enough money to where he be selective.
