Image: Broner-Escobedo: Adrien ready to knock out another #1 contenderBy Scott Gilfoid: They keep lining them up and Adrien Broner (23-0, 19 KO’s) keeps knocking them out one by one with ease. Next month, the 22-year-old Broner will be defending his World Boxing Organization (WBO) super featherweight title against the latest #1 contender, Vicente Escobedo (26-3, 15 KO’s) on July 21st in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Escobedo will likely be an even easier fight than Broner’s last bout, a fourth round TKO over #1 WBO contender Eloy Perez last February. That was supposed to have been a competitive fight, but because of Broner’s overwhelming talent advantage, the fight ended up being a terrible mismatch with Broner blasting Perez out before he was even warmed up.

You’re probably going to see the same thing next month when Broner gets the 30-year-old Escobedo in the ring to get a taste of Broner’s power. This is going to be basic slaughter with Broner wiping the deck with this guy. Escobedo was already exposed by Michael Katsidis and Robert Guerrero in losses to those guys.

I think the WBO really dropped the ball by positioning Escobedo at #1, because he hasn’t beaten anyone with a pulse since he was taken apart by Guerrero in November of 2010. Escobedo has won four fights since then, but the best guy he beat during that time was Rocky Juarez, and that’s not saying a whole lot. Broner, with his Mayweather-esque skills, would very probably beat all four of those guys on the same night one after one, knocking them all out. That’s how good Broner is. He’s an incredible talent, and it’s not even going to be a close when he gets Escobedo in the ring. I’m already feeling sorry for Escobedo, because he’s going to get taken apart in this one by Broner.
